Congratulations on the weightloss!!!

I figure you are not sure of his intentions, and don’t want to assume anything in case he sais something like “I was just being nice, I have no breeder in you THAT way.” which he would likely say either way.
I would say something like “I feel weird with the idea of going out to lunch with a man other than my husband, I know it’s silly and old fashioned but I’m odd like that:D
That way you are not implying anything and hopefully avoid any embarrassment on his part.

Not every invite to lunch is being hit on.

That being said, if the man is asking you on a date - he is likely in violation of company policy and if he continues when you have told him to stop he is in violation of the law.

Be firm. State “I am happily married and am not intreested in a romance”.

Having tried and only partially succeeded I too congratulate you on the weight loss - especially with 4 children in the house.

As for your special friend - tell him that you and your husband got a good laugh about his invite. That tells him that you don’t take him seriously and that you and your husband talk about everything - including inappropriate invitations from men at work. You might be surprised how fast that cools his ardor.

My wife told a similar suitor “My husband likes to meet all the men that ask me out on dates”.
:clapping:

Nice response. She might have added, “When he finishes his next cage fight, let’s have you 2 meet.”

I can’t figure out how interest turned into breeder in autocorrect.😛

Why not try telling him the truth?

Simply tell him that you are married and are not comfortable with even the appearance of impropriety. This covers both situations, he is hitting on you or just being friendly.

ROFL!!! Best comeback ever: I might use that if some guy is being a pest, only in my case, I’d use that in reference to my dad.

I have been considered “attractive” and it’s been nothing but a burden for me. Lots of attention from the wrong kinds of people.

Just ignore this guy! End of story.

There is the possibility that he’s just socially inept and that his intentions are innocent. I wouldn’t indict the guy just yet… As to what to do, I’d ask what his intentions are! If he’s innocent, all you’re guilty of is being careful. A man who has acted as he has can’t get too offended, it’s his responsibility to be clear, not your responsibilty to decipher him.

I’d say something like “Thanks for the invitation, but that sounds a bit like a date…and ever since I got married, (insert hubby’s name here) doesn’t like me dating! HA HA HA! I really have to go now, good to talk to you, take care!” and hang up! 😃
If he calls again, he’s a stalker…and just hit the ‘ignore’ button on your phone.

Thank you for all your responses. I deleted him from my phone, and told my husband. He wasnt thrilled at the invite. Regardless of what that guy’s intention was, I guess I felt guilty about saying NO. I can control myself, but my intuition says other things about his intentions. Geesh, what losing over 50lbs does to the opposite sex. lol

Yeah, I fing situations like that mor mortifying than flattering!
I know some people joked around with some funny sarcastic answers, but caution against them, becuase it can really backfire. The kinder straightforward approach first, and more fir and direct if that won’t work.

Welcome to the Modern Pagan America given to us by 40 years of movies and TV and novels that have made sex of all kinds perfectly normal in the eyes of many or most Americans.

Yes, if you are attractive and are a women, men are going to hit on you and try to develop a relationship for the purpose of having S * E * X with you!

Lots and lots of married people are having sex with persons who aren’t their spouses.

Just stop being “shocked!” and just keep politely and calmly saying “No thank you, I am too busy.”

Today’s American Pagans have no sense that they are doing anything wrong. To them, Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner is their Pope.

Just know that you today’s America is a PAGAN nation, and eve most Catholics mainly follow that Pagan Values, Norms and Customs. Sorry! That’s what I notice!
I know that this post wasn’t so recent, but I really felt that I just couldn’t ignore it.
I came across this thread while looking for some advise I could show to my friend who’s receiving unwanted attention from her brother’s friend, she’s catholic, and quite religious so I thought it best to start on this kinda forum.
But look, Paganism isn’t the reason that people are acting the way they’re acting in society, my religion is not used by (main) society for anything more than scaring themselves !
It’s really hurtful when I see this kind of blame and hate thrown around about my religion ! especially as I would never ever dream of doing the same thing to someone else, no matter what their beliefs of upbringing! and I’ve seen it a lot, and it always seems to be from Catholics or Christians : ( My religion is about treating other living people, and living things, with the respect that they deserve… why can’t other people do the same?😦

The majority of people acting that way have been brought up in a dominant Christian society(having to pray in school, and sing praise as I had to in school because Paganism wasn’t seen as a serious religion then, and unless you had an official religion, you had to attend those assembly’s before classes started !) that’s the society I was brought up in, and that is the society everyone else my age where I live(England) was brought up in, and I can say that most of the girls and boys in my school and classes, are really very promiscuous ! but not me, no I am a PAGAN! and I don’t believe I should share my body with anyone else but the person I am going to be married to, in this life, and every other. I am a virgin, 22, and engaged to be handfasted to the most wonderful guy in the world !

The sexualisation in society has nothing to do with Paganism(and if you think about it Paganism is older than Christianity, if it were to blame… then it would have been this way from the start because it has always been around in the first place!), I believe every religion has a few nuts latching onto it for the excuse to be crazy, in other’s it’s the excuse to persecute people, to feel superior, in mine? it’s the excuse to get naked and run around telling people that you can levitate ^-^; but honestly, true Pagans do not do this, this is all the bullhoey that Christian society(now not all Christians, but some people have used Christianity/religion in the past to gain power over others, and that’s what I’m referring to) has usually pushed onto people about us… because supposedly we worship the devil. Well in actuality… there’s no such thing as the devil in my religion just beautiful elements, and the names of the entities we’ve named to represent them : ) we’re taught that we shouldn’t harm others, or wish ill upon other people, as it will come back to haunt us in the end, which I find to be quite an amusing rule, you know why? most other religions have snapped up that little rule and called it their own, while in the same breath saying the kind of bullhoey about us that the quoted person has and I honestly believe that only one other religion other than Paganism even follows that rule!

Also, I’m quite protective of my body, and my relationship, I usually tell guys that I have someone, and make sure that they know where they stand – I’m very strict about it really, but the guy that the lady who originally posted mentions, seems like maybe he just misses his colleague? I miss people that I’ve worked with for a long time at college, and come to view them as friends!
So I also would probably text someone asking to meet for icecream or just to hang out, and calling you his work wife really does seem like a small friendly joke… (because he states ‘work’, a guy who wanted you, or just wanted to use you even, would probably call you his wife and leave it for people to misunderstand – I’ve had weirdos call me their soulmate because they’ve seen me use the term for a select few of my closest friends, and assumed it was a way to get close to me), not every guy is going to be after your… uh 😊 you know:blush:😊 sometimes that’s just how they make friends, and since you’d worked with him, he probably did see you as a friend already, I’d say that the best thing to do would be turn it into a double date because then there’s really no room for misunderstanding, and you’re also not missing out on a possible good genuine friend ! : )

So this past summer I began a diet and weightloss renovation on myself. As the layers of fat come off, I am becoming more confident. Well, now I am getting unwanted male attention. I am not used to compliments as it is, and now when men say it, I am really uncomfortable.

Recently, an ex-coworker of mine was texting me (He only had my number to send me the new work password every 2 mos) asking me to go to lunch. I told him I was busy working, sorry. Well he was really persistent, but I avoided it. Then out of the blue he asked me for drinks that night.

I have no intentions on seeing him. I am married and a mother of 4 sons. I just told my husband tonight of the conversation because I am struggling with the male attention I am getting, and I really do not have anyone to talk to about it.

I am sure it stems from my childhood and being treated negatively by men, but I am moving past that. I feel guilty that I am being asked out by this guy, and I really wanted to say, hey I am married, and out of respect for my husband I am not going to meet you. I just didnt want it to backfire and look like a moron if he said, I just wanted to hang out and catch up, and not what you think.

Ive been with my husband for 15 years, so I am not really familiar with how other guys act, just my guy. I guess I am looking for some good tips or advice. I still have weight to lose and I wonder of this is how it is going to be as I get smaller?
I just usually tell them to back off in a highly un-Christian manner.

Congrats on the weight loss! 👍

I agree with Starheart that Paganism isn’t to blame. It’s more a case of “secularism”. Anyway…

I can’t say if YesAll4boys was reading too much into that man’s texts asking to meet her, but I think she did the right thing since she was uncomfortable. I can understand that if she and that man worked closely together that he might miss her. When I worked on an ambulance, my partner (with whom I spent 24 hours every third day) referred to me as his “work wife”. There was nothing sexual about it, and his wife and my husband thought it was amusing. Now that I’ve been gone for over a year, I miss the men I worked with. We text. We talk. We occasionally meet for beer and wings. There are a couple of them, however, that I would never consider texting, talking to, or meeting because I know their intentions are not honorable. Those are the men I would block from my phone if they tried to call me or text me anything inappropriate. I’ve had to tell one man that I let my husband read a text he sent me and he didn’t appreciate it. He hasn’t texted me again.

YesAll4boys, I want to congratulate you on your progress. I hope you’ve continued in your weight loss journey. I do want to mention something in the original post:
**As the layers of fat come off, I am becoming more confident. **
Well, now I am getting unwanted male attention. I am not used to compliments as it is, and now when men say it, I am really uncomfortable.
Most people I know find attractive those who are healthy and in shape. Not only that, but confidence is attractive. It is sexy. It doesn’t really matter how you look, if you are confident, you will attract others. The best thing to say when someone compliments you on your looks is to say, “Thank you. My husband thinks so, too.” This is a polite way to let them know that you are married and not open to further advances.

Although my religion doesn’t require it, I wear a headcovering. I recently began wearing a hijab style more frequently. I assume that most people think I’m a Muslim (and I really don’t care). But it sure has scared men away! 👍
