Are any CAF members particularly put off by the title or anything else about the show? My mom is an immigrant from the Philippines herself.

My opinion is based entirely on the title as I don’t have a TV or know anything about the show. I think it could be a marvelous send-up of American conventions and how little sense we make to people from other countries. 🙂

My own ancestors came from various countries by boat (planes not having been invented ;)) and I wish I could find out how they reacted to Americanisms.

Um… it says it’s about a Taiwanese family. 😑

I don’t know about you but that’s as insulting to me as anti-Japanese WW2 slurs are to an Indian. 🤷

Unless of course, you think it should be a general insult to everyone migrating from the eastern part of the world’s largest continent?

I went to school with a lot of second-generation Asian-Americans who seemed to enjoy using the term to refer to their family.

My mom immigrated from Italy (1956) and she uses that term about herself when she talks about her early days in America -I didn’t ever think it was an insult.

The title doesn’t bother me, but I probably won’t watch it as I don’t like comedies in general.

Is everything to be considered an “ethnic slur” unless proven otherwise?
