Upcoming Parathyroidectomy

Well, now that the colonoscopy is done, I will be having 2 parathyroid adenomas removed this Tuesday, July 10th because I’m suffering from hyperparathyroidism. The scan showed that one of them could be partially within the thyroid, and if that is true, the doctor will have to remove that part of the thyroid. Please pray that this isn’t the case, as my recovery will take longer.

I also had a myelogram done so my neurosurgeon could better determine what kind of surgery to do on my thoracic spine (I am very likely going to have spinal fusion). That won’t be for a while, because my consult with him isn’t until the day after my birthday (July 16th), and surgeries often take place a few weeks after consults.

I am still in pain from the myelogram (it feels like someone kicked me hard in my lower back) and the site is tender to the touch (I have constant headaches too). Please pray that that part remedies itself soon. It seems as if this year is not going well for me. ☹️ Thank you for all your prayers in the past. 😙 God Bless you all! :pray:t3:

Well, had the surgery. It went “well”, I suppose. The doctor told me the two bad parathyroids were black-ish blue, which means pre-cancerous or cancerous, so he removed half of my thyroid, 😞 and sent it to the lab. I hope that he got all of it, and none of the bad cells had spread yet.

The pain is as to be expected; more annoying than anything else (My scoliosis back pain is much worse). I’m not sure how I will sleep, because I’m supposed to be sleeping reclined on my back, but that makes my scoliosis pain worse. For that, I sleep on my left side, knees bent with something propping my back up (edited to remove double and mis-spelled word). It’s going to be a rough night. The percocet he prescribed is only so-so. I swear that codeine works better for pain, because my thoracic back still hurts with the percocet, and codeine makes it stop (no, I didn’t “double up” on the pain meds, just an observation).

Well, thank you for all your prayers 😘, and keep them coming 😃. I’m going to see the doctor who took the fluid sample from my pancreas in a few days. Pray there is no cancer. 😟

Thank you, Tis_Bearself (and others) for your continued prayers! 😀 Things turned out well for my parathyroid/thyroid. There were no cancer cells, even though the size and color looked “weird” to the doctor (as I posted above). There is no pain on the surgery site (nor was there much even on the day. I don’t consider a “1 or 2” out of 10 to be pain).

I still need prayers for the fluid taken from my pancreas. That dr. said there were mast cells in the fluid, so he sent it to the lab. There is no word (I’m worried about that). I don’t want to lose the tail of my pancreas (nor my spleen - it seems they remove your spleen as well). :pray:t3:

I also still need lots of prayers for my spinal surgery. Perhaps there will be a miracle that will make the surgery much less complicated than it looks right now. :pray:t3:

Blessings to you, Katherine for your continued prayers. 😀 :hugs: I went to a pain specialist who my neurosurgeon referred me to, and the meds are working wonderfully! Not only is my pain cut in half (average of three rather than 6), but they don’t make me sleepy for some weird reason (the doc was surprised). I was praying for something to help my pain without making me loopy. 😀 Keep those prayers coming, 'cause they’re working! 😃
 
I have to have the same surgery you had … why are you in so much pain?
