Upcoming supernatural/action film 'Sanctuary'

Joel Silver, who has produced some of my favorite action films like Die Hard and The Matrix, is working on a new property called ‘Sanctuary’. From the link:

Scripted by Alan Trezza, Sanctuary focuses on a young woman who is possessed by a powerful demonic force. She seeks refuge within The Sanctuary, a Vatican-run secret organization that teaches the possessed to channel their inner demon and use its power as a weapon against evil. The flavor is a cross between Wanted and Blade.

I’ve enjoyed the other films he’s produced and action films are a favorite, guilty pleasure of mine so I’m looking forward to this. Sure the concept may seem eerie, but I don’t look to action films for their take on theology so I don’t mind.

Huh?!

For me, it seems to be more puzzling than eerie.

Action films especially action films which include the supernatural are also a guilty pleasure of mine.

This trope is actually not all that new. I’ve personally read about more than a handful of protagonists who channel dark powers from something locked deep within them. My only gripe is it tends to be too antagonistic on the part of the Vatican.

If they’d just ditch the cliche, it’d be truly awesome.
