No, I’m saying the very basis of homeopathic treatment is scientifically absurd and nonsensical, AND no homeopathic “remedy” has ever been shown to be effective. AND the onus is on those claiming a benefit for their treatment to prove that it works, not on everyone else to prove that it doesn’t work. “He who asserts must prove.”
I would rank “a report on a major news magazine show” just slightly above “several folks told me”. Maybe these substances work, maybe not. The fact that their manufacturer chose to promote the product by means of a popular TV show, rather than doing independent testing submitted for peer review by experts, would strongly suggest “not”. “They gave it to the dog and the dog got better” means nothing. Over 80% of diseases will get better with ANY or NO treatment. Arthritis by its nature waxes and wanes in severity. And contrary to your implication, “over-the-counter” does not mean “alternative”. Many proven therapies are available without prescription.
I have nothing to prove about homeopathy, as I never asserted. But I did question your assertion.

Osteoarthritis does not “get better.” My MD recommended glucosamine-chondroitin. And there was going to be a clinical trial of it in treatment of knee arthritis versus treatment with Vioxx, but Vioxx was pulled from the market for being unsafe. Glucosamine-chondroitin wasn’t. So I don’t know what the status of the study now is.

The thread started with several negative assertions, particularly about homeopathy and iridology. Others agreed. Did any of the naysayers prove what the OP stated? 😛

Not that I saw. I saw a lot of talk, but no support…In fact, there seemed to be a lot of anger at those of us who have & do use alternative medicine, for reasons that I quite frankly don’t understand…
I’m certainly not insisting that anyone else use AM therapies. I’m simply reporting that I have used them with excellent results. Especially is this true in 2 very “touchy” areas: treating those who need to avoid medication interactions with required (standard allopathic) meds; and in cats, who have a-typical reactions, some deadly, to many standard forms of medications.
I would add: I have a cat; and I am one of those people who have to avoid drug interactions with a number of “regular” meds. I know, therefore, whereof I speak.

I don’t have any anger toward those who use alternative meds/therapies. In fact, I have used them myself. I have a son with autism and NOTHING conventional works for that. However, I was very disturbed by the occult connection with homeopathy and other treatments that are gaining in popularity now. That is NOT to say that all alternative treatments have a new age/occult connection. Any treatment, conventional or not, should be investigated by the potential user of the treatment.

While I see that this thread is an old one I also observed that never were the facts presented on the origin of Homeopathy. I will make this as short as possible so that you get the facts and why herbal meds are not the same as homeopathy.

Samuel Hahnaman, also known as the Father of Homeopathy was directed by a “spirit guide” in the process of making a homeopathic preparation. All preparations are made according to the directions that were given to Hahnamann by this “spirit”. Notice little “s” not Holy Spirit. They are all made by successing (hitting) the jar of fluid, usually water, after a minute amount of an herb, toxin or other substance has been added. You use the palm of your hand only or a leather pad for the successing of the fluid. Repeating this many times by taking a drop of the successed fluid and adding it to another large amount of water or other liquid and hitting the jar on your hand or the leather pad. Thus in the natural processes that God has set in motion you are actually diluting the herb (sometimes 60 or more times) to the point there is basically nothing left of it in the fluid or preparation. But supposedly, according to homeopathic info you have by using the method given by the spirit guide, you have supposedly made a preparation that has “vital energy” or “memory” and will heal a disease or disorder.

The problem is not the herb. The problem is two fold.

One you are using a method that is still the only way to make a homeopathic preparation to this day! It is the same method that was given by a “spirit guide” Not a holy guide, one that is from the fallen angels as Hahnamann was very into the occult. Thus every preparation has been made by divination and demons will be attached to every homeopathic preparation by the very nature of the demonic influence called upon to give the preparation it’s “energy” to heal. And remember Satan can heal but at what cost to you and your family’s eternal souls???

Two - The other red flag is the preparation will supposedly act in a way that is opposed to the natural processes that God has put into being. Highly diluting a substance that you started out with only a tiny amount of anyway will not make it stronger. This is opposed to God’s natural laws.

So in truth when you use a homeopathic remedy you are using something that is made by the directions of a demonic revelation and expecting that it will act in a way that is opposed to the natural order of God’s creation and expecting that just because it works it is sanctioned by God. NO! God did not sanction this, He did not give a thumbs up to using an act of divination to create something to heal you.

It does not matter to Satan whether you understand all of this or not. Your use of homeopatic remedies is still the inroad that he is watching for as he only comes to kill, steal and destroy. It is no different than someone innnocently using a Ouija board. The results are all the same, you are opening yourself and your family to demonic influences whether you understand it or not.

The best way to stop this is to renounce it’s use in confession, burn all the homeopathic books, pills, etc. after they have been sprinkled with holy water. You do not want to release demonic spirits from these things when burning them. The holy water binds their actions and moves them to the place they belong through the authority of Holy Mother Church and Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

Herbal remedies are absolutely NOT the same as Homeopathy! Herbal remedies are using the herb in a way that God intended such as a tea or a poultice. Even when making an herbal tincture you use lots of the herb and cover it with usually alcohol. In time the alcohol helps extract the healing properties in the herb, concentrates them in the alcohol thus making them effective by using say a teaspoon three times a day. This is NOT homeopathy! You have worked with the natural laws God set forth for our greatest good when using herbs in the normal way God intended.

I hope this helps everyone understand why homeopathy is a serious spiritual problem for anyone including Catholics.

Someone also posted that they used iridology (reading of the eyes). This, too, is an occult practice and should be avoided. Reiki, reflexology, Scientology, centering prayer, guided imagery, etc. she said are all occult. She said if you use any of these, confess it and in confession, say “I renounce the use of Reiki (or whatever you have used).”
How is it that centering prayer, a method of encouraging contemplation and moving the mind and heart toward the Lord, which was developed by a Trappist abbot can be equated with Scientology, which is full of mind control techniques, and was developed by a drug-addicted hack sci-fi writer and Satanist who worked with Alister Crowley’s right hand man in the USA, Jack Parsons?

Some may argue that Father Keating’s centering prayer techniques are not the best method of prayer available to those in the Church, but at least he has actively MADE THEM available, unlike other techniques of contemplative prayer, which are elusive and hard to access for the non-monastic. To equate them with a genuinely satanic system of mind control and emotional manipulation whose sole reason for existence is to make it’s leaders rich (Scientology) is just plain ignorant.

I would also echo agreement with the many posts on here saying that Homeopathy is most definitely NOT occult. Neither is reflexology.

Paranoid much?

Hanehmman was not an occultist of any kind. He was a very intelligent, classically trained medical man who rightly despaired at the state of his day’s technology, which basically involved bleeding and poisoning patients to death. We forget that mainstay treatments of that time included mercury, arsenic and antimony salts! Hanehmann was one of the first to carry out controlled trials of medications in any semi-modern sense of the word. That said, his observations did lead to some faulty conclusions. For example, one pillar of homeopathy states that like cures like. The same drug that creates the symptoms of a disease can cure it. It seems very likely that Hanehmann drew this conclusion based upon trials of cinchona/quinine bark on himself. The drug was, and is used to treat malaria. When he took some of it himself, he developed malaria-like symptoms of fever, chills etc. and a theory was born. We now know that it is very likely that he was experiencing a drug allergy and not quinine’s usual effects. A theory gets built on a rotten foundation.

His other main concept says that diluted forms of a drug produce more powerful, or at least lasting effects than the concentrated version. It’s well established in toxicology that smaller doses can have radically different effects than larger ones, but he took it to an absurd extreme. At what the homeopaths call “high” potencies, ie high dilutions, the parent molecule is diluted out of existence. To explain that paradox, practiioners say the solution “remembers” the original molecule somehow, perhaps by some vague mechanism of quantum mechanics. Pretty hinky science, to say the least.

That said, I have had some benefit from certain homeopathic formulas, most especially one called Traumameel, which is available in a cream and tablets. It’s based on arnica and other things which are anti-inflammatory. It’s a “low potency:” mix in terms of homeopathy, which means it has a good deal of active ingredient in it in real world terms. Most of the rest I’ve tried is junk , though I do make good use of standard herbal formulas and vitamins etc.

something else that needs to be brought up when discussing homeopathies is the placebo effect. While in vernacular parlance, “placebo” means useless, the power fo the human mind over the body to which it is intimately connected (according to Catholic Theology) is scientifically observable. When we talk about the "Placebo effect, we are NOT talking about the mind’s ability to trick the body into “thinking” it is better, but about the mind’s ability to MAKE the body better.

Honestly, this sounds like an occult ritual if I ever heard one. I do not believe that Satan holds even a candle to the power of the One True God. I love Him, His Son, and his Son’s Mother. That’s what matters. I always do my best to follow their will. I’ve never heard any ex cathedra teaching on Demonic forces being inside my ocillococciunm tube… but I have gotten over pre-flu symptoms in a matter of hours. If this was due to my mind’s ability to heal my body rather than the pills themselves, then more glory than ever to God and the strength he has given our minds to govern the health of our bodies.

No demons were involved in the crafting of this message.

We are NOT allowed to discuss medical advice, so I suspect that this thread should be (at last!) shut down.
However, there was some false info given about Dr Hahnemann. He was not an occultist. He was a medical doctor.
There was no “spirit guide”. In the years when homeopathy was developed as a science, the proper medical term for meds was “spirits”. (Much as we still call bourbon “distilled spirits”).
Dr Hahnemann noticed that small doses of meds had an opposite effect on his patients, & he investigated in the lab, & invented the process of titration (which keeps folks from horrible side effects of stopping meds too suddely. It was also his work that brought us such:cool: far-from-demonic things as flu shots, and polio vaccines.

I will not give medical advice, though I also will not retract anything I said when it was still OK to discuss medical matters here.

And now, I am reporting this thread as being both old and inappropriate.

Thank you, Zooey, for the reminder that medical advice is NOT permitted to be offered nor solicited on CAF.
