You don’t think it is but then you would give me the benefit of the doubt? How nice!
All glory to God, I only do it because I’m a Christian.
When you tried to help someone, give some reasons instead of a short statement which gives readers no clue.
Tried should be try.

If you do the math, you’ll figure out why Anglicanism is a logical choice - many people say C.S Lewis (Anglican) would’ve converted to Catholicism had he lived longer. (possible I suppose)

Would you rather I recommended her to sit at home of a sunday and go to no church?
You don’t need to hop from one church to another church. If it is God’s work and you are opened up to it, He puts you right where He wants you to be.
You would’ve made a good Calvinist.

God Bless,
Rev

In my quest to investigate Catholicism - as it stands now - I believe that no church follows that first generation of believers after Christ died.

None.

They’ve all expounded and added things.
Hi Rev,

Many Protestants (including myself, when I was a Protestant) would like to go back to the “first century church.” The problem is, we don’t live in the first century, but the 21st century. The Catholic Church didn’t add anything, but did need to expound on issues as they were challenged. For example, almost all Christian groups believe in the Trinity, but that word wasn’t used in the first century church, and it wasn’t until the third century that it was formally defined when a priest named Arius taught that Jesus was a created being. Centuries later came heresies that said Jesus couldn’t be fully human, so doctrines were taught to combat those heresies. Today we face issues (stem cell research, etc.) that the first century church could not have imagined, and you need a living voice to clarify issues and apply the Scriptures to today’s problems.
Someone on another thread, used Jesus’s parable of the mustard seed. The first century church was the mustard seed. All the things that Catholics believe were there in kernel form, so to speak, but were “unpacked” through the centuries in response to challenges to the faith.

Another thing: I think when people talk about the first century church, they have a sort of nostalgic feeling for it, since that was that century that Jesus and the Apostles lived, and imagine it was “better” than the church of today. However, if you read the Scriptures, you will see that the early church had its share of problems. The Corinthians were divided into factions, and approved of a man sleeping with his stepmother, the Thessalonians were waiting for Jesus to return and quit working, the Colossians and Galatians were being seduced by Judaicizers; if you read John’s letter the the seven churches, only two have no criticizisms directed at them, and two of them (Sardis and Laodicea) John says nothing good about.

Thank you again guys. I cannot tell you how much your hospitality means to me.

I don’t know what to do. I feel like I’m loosing control over my life and I am stressing out. I don’t know what to believe, the doctrines are so different. I just want to find the right church but everything has to be so complicated.

I’m not sure why I turned to God and religion in the first place, but I thought it would help me and make me somewhat content with myself; Sometimes I just think to taking the easy way out sounds nice. I really don’t care where I end up.

I’m sorry I am sounding negative here… but I’m really not sure about things anymore.
Hey Bump,

I want to point out a few things to you based on this post. First, the bad news…turning to God will not solve all your problems. You are still going to have problems in your life. The Health and Wealth people that say otherwise are looking for larger collections on Sunday and not much more.

Now the good news. What turning to God will do for you is make sure that you never walk alone. God will always be there for you in all things…and in fact he is now. The deal is, there are some out there that would make you think that finding Christ means that you will be rich over night and that you will never have problems again. What they should be saying is that the problems will still be there in your life…but you now have a way to deal with the problems. God will help you through, but you still have obligations too. You have to follow his teaching and the teaching of the Church…that is not easy. In fact, countless people have given their lives for it. Still, what you will find is that the more you follow the teaching of God and His Church, the better you deal with the bad things that life throws at you.

I do not want to paint a negative picture for you, as becoming Catholic and Christian has been the turning point of my life. In doing that, I discovered who I am and who I want to be. That is no small thing, and it is the joy of my life. Still, I want you to walk this road with your eyes open.

I think that there is a book you might want to read…it is called The Catholic Passion, and you can get it at Amazon. Give it a read and you will better understand the joys and challenges of being Catholic.

Cheers!
Brad

PS. You get something else when you join up with God too…you get a community of people working with you. That is us, here, at CAF and the billions of Catholics that will be going with you.

Don’t jump so quickly, Rev. Water grew up speaking Vietnamese. Her English is a lot better than your Vietnamese.

Besides, your grammar own shows some evidence of, well, haste:
All glory to God**, **I only do it because I’m a Christian.

Based on the other things Water has written, Calvinism is one theology she does not agree with.

Most of you probably don’t know me, but some of you might. About a year ago I began questioning my religion (LDS) and began looking into the Catholic religion. I can’t exactly say why but I did. Anyways, after studying and praying for a while I began to believe that the Catholic church was the right church.

However, my parents kind of intervened and cut me off from a lot of my Catholic sources that I was getting answers from… including this site. So obviosuly I haven’t been here for a while.

Anyways, after that happened I have used this time to study up on the things I can. I have asked questions to my seminary teacher instead of my catholic teacher.

I have to say, I didn’t expect to budge in my decision. But I have. I don’t know what to do anymore. I feel like either way I go I can’t make it to Heaven anyways, so I don’t know why I try but I do. I think I would rather end up in Hell for one simple reason, that I don’t deserve to be I God’s presence. I mean, it sounds so simple but it feels so complicated. There is too much to it that I cannot explain. It goes far beyond religion that I don’t even have the energy to explain it all, but eveyone seems too interested to keep me in a religion or convert me to another that it doesn’t really matter anyways.

I guess I will have keep searching but the LDS religion is making a lot of sense to me right now with the Apostasy and the Three Kingdoms doctrine… stuff like that I guess…

I do know one thing, though. I believe in one true church and that is either the Catholic of the Mormon church. I do not believe a protestant religion is right for one reason… the Catholic church either fell into Apostasy or it didn’t. If it did, then I do not believe you can derive a right church from a wrong church. It’s like trying to keep a branch from a dead trunk alive. If it fell into apostasy there needs to be a restoration, not a reformation. If it didn’t fall into apostasy, then the Catholic church is right. That’s just how I see it.
You sure don’t want to convert to Catholicism until you’ve had the chance to study it thoroughly. You won’t live with your parents forever. Keep an open mind about the Catholic Church. You will find it has the truth. The Mormon question all comes down to one thing: Is the Book of Mormon true. It doesn’t take much research to find that it is not.

All you need to know about the Book of Mormon can be found in these two videos:

lhvm.org/vid_dna_med.htm

lhvm.org/vid_bible_med.htm

These videos can be watched on-line and are excellent presentations.

There is also a very good article on the Catholic Answers web site:

Good for you if you consider yourself a Christian.

If you are patient enough, search the forums, you will find people convert to Catholic from different religions and even from Atheist. For one to know the real Church does not depend on the number of people out there as you think.

I have always been a Catholic and will be a good Catholic. 😉

Third link doesn’t work. I would like to see it.

Yes, I guess if you can throw all scientific fact out the window, you can then come to that statement. Still, the facts do not indicate that the Book or Morman is correct in its central claims. So, short of total denial, there is not much to back up your claim that the Book of Morman is true…

Hi I will be praying for you the Lord’s Prayer, the Our Father as that is a pretty universal prayer.
Have you visited a Catholic Church? Try just going to a mass no one will pressure you and see if you can feel the real prescence of the Lord Jesus.
“Come, Holy Spirit! Fill our hearts, and send us out to transform this world for you. With you as our strength, we can renew the face of the earth.”
" I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
Philippians 4; 13
You will know the true church by the fruit of the Spirit.

Grab a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and read what it says about, here your quote " that I don’t deserve to be in God’s presence". You’ll find that God *wishes *us to be in his presence, and that although we can feel or act ‘undeserving’ because of our own actions, thoughts or deeds, that doesn’t change WHAT GOD WANTS. Big difference.

My grammar construction was perfectly acceptable in Australian English. (I’m a Linguistics student)

But I was hasty with water, because I dislike the way she conducts herself.

Hi Rob, thanks for the response, I don’t want to take the attention away from bump here so I won’t respond to your post, but it’d make a good thread on it’s own.

I was wondering why it is easier to go with Anglicanism than with Catholicism?
What was wrong with asking to clarify information. That was all I asked. Why did you find a problem with me?

You see my intention was not different than yours. All I asked you was to explain why you thought it was easier to go to with Anglicanism than with Catholicism

It is only to help the original poster.

However, without knowing my heart and intention, you had jumped the gun and thought “dislike” the way I asked.

If you found my question distasteful to you, then I felt sorry for you to have to think it that way about someone else!

Yes it would, and I’ve been planning on starting a thread on the topic for a while. When I get “a round tuit” I will.

Hey, that’s pretty good reasoning.

Hey, that’s pretty good reasoning.
I agree that is a good reasoning. What is even better about it is that it is a Mormon reasoning! The Catholics didn’t invent that reasoning; the Mormons did! 😃
