I had a post here a few weeks ago that was a question as to why the tribe of Levi was chosen as the Priestly class by God and not the tribe that would have been Jacob’s first born (since God required every firstborn male be consecrated to Him). In the post, I stated the first born Rueben (Jacob and Leah’s firstborn) or Joseph (Rachel’s firstborn) should have been the tribe chosen for the Priestly class since they were the firstborn (for the mothers) which should have been consecrated to God.

After delving into this further, here is the official scriptural answer as to why the Levites were chosen instead of the other two tribes - Numbers 8:15-19. And many of the people who responded to my question stated it right - He chose the Levites because He wanted to. It could have been because they stood beside the Lord while the other Israelites were admiring the Golden Calf but its not directly stated in the Bible (unless I haven’t gone over that part again yet).

Perhaps because Moses and Aaron were Levites. They were the ones who confronted pharaoh obtaining release for the Israelites, and leading them to the Promised Land. God knew what a lengthy, heavy burden that was going to be!
Number 8:19 says God gave the Levites to Aaron as a gift.

I got my source from Dr.brad pitre regarding the levites making a stand against the idolaters although EndTimes commented that scripture gave a different reason .

The original plan was that all of Israel should be priests (Exodus 19:6). However, all of Israel fell into worshipping the golden calf while Moses was on the mountain.

It was the Levites who rallied to Moses’ side and killed three thousand of their fellow Israelites who worshipped the calf, and by that action, Moses told them, they had consecrated themselves priests for God (Exodus 32:29).
