After so many years of discounting bogus political polls, now we have to contend with bogus religious polls? So much depends on how these questions are phrased, who was polled, and other factors which they don’t want to tell you. It’s all trash, as far as I’m concerned.
 
Actually, I think that these polls are rather revealing. I don’t doubt that these results are true at all - they are certainly representative of some of the Catholics that I know.

I’d like to see a similar poll designed and conducted by the National Catholic Register and compare it to this one done by the National Catholic Reporter.
I have hard time accepting most things from the Reporter. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that some of the responses would come out to be very similar. 😦

I can sympothize - I really can. In fact, that was my first impulse as well.

But then I think about the fact that I was in those ranks three years ago, and I reconsider.

:eek: the thing is - based on a good deal of my former exposure to Catholics (several very devout friends accepted) - this is probably what I thought of Catholics in general for a good many years thanks to members of my extended family… and unfortunately - this is also what I know is going to be going through my father’s mind when I finally tell them I am converting… because he has this completely wrong bogus idea of what Catholicism really is based on his exposure as a kid- both what he was taught AND the kinds of Catholics he was around (who certainly would probably fit that first table!) (he was taught a lot of incorrect things as a child - I expect the rest of the family was to to some extent (ok to a rather great extent) as two members of the extended family once took communion at a protestant service with us :eek: after one asking the other if it was ok, and them determining that they thought it was perfectly acceptable :eek:
 
As far as my own experiences go with other Catholics, I find this to be very true. 😦
