My girlfriend wants to move back home…she’s from France, and she moved here about a year ago, but she went back for the summer, and ever since she’s been back, I can tell how bad she really wants to go back. She always says “I want to go back soooo bad.” She says her parents feel the same way, and are seriously thinking about going back. Her screensaver on her computer and cellphone are pictures of her hometown. I know there’s nothing I can do and no way to make them feel at home here, and I probably shouldn’t be posting this because there’s nothing to do about it, and I’m sorry but I’m just sad. If it happens I don’t know what I’m gonna do. She says we can be in a long distance relationship, but it’s not the same. 😦

Did she move out to where you live for you and your guys’ relationship? If so, why wouldn’t you move out there for her if your relationship is that important to you? I know that it isn’t easy being away from your family, friends, and your home and it is a really big sacrifice. I did that for my husband though. When we got married I moved across the U.S. from the West Coast to the East Coast. I had to start all over and all I had out there was my husband. I then 3 years later moved to the South then leaving the new friends I made on the East Coast. Not easy, but it was worth it being with my husband.

That stinks. I’'ve been dumped and it’s not fun.

Do something kind for yourself like see a movie, hang out with friends, or re-engage in a hobby you may have neglected. You’ll hurt for awhile, but take things one day at a time and it will eventually get better.

Hi MilesFish,

Welcome!

First, I am sorry for your pain 😦 .

Remember, God has plans for your welfare, not woe. He will not throw anything at you that you cannot take. Just be open to His will (even if it means a break-up or move).

For the time being, it doesn’t sound like anything is set in stone, so unless/until plans (not just talking or considerations) to move back to France are being made, I would not worry too much about it, since, as you said, there is not much you can do anyway (and our Lord wants you to be happy if you can). Also, wanting to go back is very different from planning to. Sure they love the place, but moving requires finding a new job, finding housing, and if your going to a different country, there are even more things to think about (passports, will education transfer…etc.). It still seems a long way off.

But if she should happen to move…
It sounds like you might be a student, am I right? Adults and college-aged students frequently have to deal with long distance relationships. They can work, and if you think she’s God’s plan for you, you can try it, though I would not normally recommend a long distance relationship unless you have some foreseeable end to the long-distance part. If you are as young as I guessed, you may be a little young to be commited to someone you won’t get to see in person for an unspecified length of time. If you knew she was coming back, or you could move there in a few years…that’d be different. Sorry if I sound a little blunt, but I really feel as though you need to hear this.

I hope all works out.

A prayer will be said for you tonight,

CotL

I don’t want to seem like a heartless so-and-so,but these are life’s experiences mate.It may feel a bit unfair, somewhat dismal, but all the same,it’s all worth living through.I don’t want to say it;but I will - “there are plenty of fish in the sea”.Maybe the next one to walk in your life is from the Czech Republic?Who knows?Maybe a girl you shunned in school?Perhaps you’ll become a priest(lose the girl interest if you do)?Isn’t life just grand and full of surprises?Carry on.

Chin up kid.

All the best,

JMJ

Long distance relationships are tough but they can work. Put God’s will for your life at the fore front of what you are doing. If this girl is the one He intends for you things will work out. My SIL went to Germany for her last year of high school. She then came back to the US for college for 3 years and then moved back to Germany to marry the man she had dated while a high school exchange student. You don’t know the end but God does. Trust Him and pray for your own acceptance of His will for your life.
