Okay so I am upset, and I wanted to ask this question…
Last night at the conformation dinner, I was told by a gal’s mom that Conformation did NOT mean I am a member…
Is that true?

Yes I was Baptized 22 years ago baptist…and confirmed last night and took Eucharist, Father gave me my Saints name as well

Did you make the statement that you profess and believe the teachings of the Catholic Church? (those might not be the exact words, but similar)

Congratulations on your Confirmation.
Baptism has already made you a member of the Church.
I’m sorry that the woman caused you hurt when you should have just been rejoicing. Not all Catholics are well-informed and it appears she is one of those.

Don’t let your joy be taken away! Be at peace

Then you are a Catholic. I myself just received the sacraments of initiation, so I am entirely certain of this. I cannot imagine what this woman was thinking.

Okay thank you, Yea she said it in front of several people at our dinner they had for us…

Okay, I just wanted to find out because she is Catholic, and her stating this had me upset on what should of been an exciting day, and it still is, I just let her upset me too much

It suddenly occurred to me that the woman may, in a clumsy, half explanatory way, have actually meant just that … that it isn’t Confirmation that made you Catholic, but the Church’s acceptance of your baptism and your wholeheartedly acceptance of the Faith of the Church.

She may not have intended that you are not a member of the Catholic Church, but that it wasn’t the Sacrament of Confirmation that actually made you Catholic. How very easy it is for us to mis-communicate and cause others pain we might never know about until after we die.
I think this may have been what actually occurred.

I do not know, maybe, But I feel she knew what me and another lady was talking about.
The family acted better then us,another was fussing and I guess all that had me upset as well. I may of Misunderstood her, so much fussing going on ,and so much rubbing in our faces on how much she spent on her daughter in laws gift , My Husband walked out of the dinner
But it could of been my fault misunderstanding her

no, it’s not true, you were a candidate that was received in to the church and received the sacrament of holy communion and confirmation, you are fully catholic.

be at peace

Don’t let anyone tarnish the happiness and peace of this day. You are fully accepted and, yes, Catholic. Welcome!

We didn’t have that part of the story, sadly, we can only go on what we read, one of the limitations of the internet as opposed to personal contact .
Your additional information does throw more light on the situation. She sounds like someone who has problems that may need prayer and healing. God grant she will receive the help she needs
At least the woman can have the benefit of our prayers.

It’s sad that your evening was spoiled on this way by a woman who appears to perhaps be disturbed and intrinsically unhappy enough to allow herself to spoil others’ joy.

I’m sorry that you and your husband were so hurt.
