Hello everyone, I am privelleged to have discovered a forum such as this one, and I was directed here by a very wise friend.I have been looking around, and there seems to be an abundance of Catholics here, with experience of solving spiritual difficulties.I have no intention of offending anyone or causing arguments, but I feel as if I need to express myself and share my insight, and your wisdom would be much appreciated. If I am bothering you, please say so, and I will leave.I am really very upset about all this.

I love Jesus with all my heart, and believe he is amazing.I used to be a devout Catholic, but now I feel as if I don’t want to have anything to do with Catholicism anymore (or indeed Christianity.) This is for 2 main reasons-

1.I just cannot agree with everything the Church teaches-For example,we can go to Heaven because of Jesus being crucified. This seems to me to be terrible injustice.I would like to befriend Jesus and serve him (because he was so amazing) but get to Heaven by his bloodshed? No…I have some personal experience of bloodshed, and though it hurts so much,it is certainly nothing compared to his. Crucifixion must be terrible torture, and I could never allow anyone, let alone someone I love, to endure it.I’d honestly rather go to Hell. This is just the main example, there are others too-eg.the Liturgy doesn’t really make sense to me,and although I’ve read the entire Bible, there’s parts of it (such as Leviticus…) that I seriously cannot accept. So I prefer to just serve God by myself.(Of course,I remain devoted to the BVM and the saints-they are amazing and I will always love them.)

2.I’ve noticed that there are plenty of people who are not Christians, yet are extremely good, sensitive, and kindhearted-and there are a lot of Christians who are insensitive and mean.In the past,I’ve really been hurt by them-In fact, they more or less treated me like a worthless disgrace, even though I was trying very hard to please them.I was young and sensitive, and I am still recovering from this. Also, (I don’t like to mention this) they lead a somewhat mundane and shallow life,(to put it very mildly) and I’d really prefer to have little to do with them, let alone share a faith with them. They like to argue, too, and it’s absolutely ridiculous.I clung to Christianity because I believed it was the way to ‘be good’, and I wanted to be good more than anything else. But now I can see that this is not neccesarily true.

I have shed many bitter tears over the injustice of blasphemy, and over the evil ways of the world, and now I come here to clear out ‘the gray corner’ of my soul, and to see if anyone can advise me or make sense of it.I am still young (not yet an adult) so I would like to hear what those of you who are wiser and more experienced have to say.

Thankyou:shamrock2:

One of the reasons why Jesus is so great is because of His sacrifice. He suffered because He loves us and and wanted to redeem us. He is so great that He forgave the very people who were killing Him. Instead of feeling sad, just love Him even more. That’s what He wants.
The Bible is a wonderful book, but parts of it can be very confuseing.(Many of the laws in Leviticus were just for that time and group)As for the Liturgy, it can be confuseing, but once you start to understand it, I think that you will find it very beautiful. Please ask us any questions that you have.
You are right that there are many good people that do not believe in God, and many Christians who don’t live good lives. However, from my experience I can tell you that it is much harder to be a good person without God. It is much easier to rationalize something that you want to do but know is wrong. Some people call themselves Christians but don’t do their best to live by Christ’s example. Is there anyway you can avoid these people who bring you down?
Remember, every question has an answer. People on here are happy to respond. They have helped me numerous times.
God bless you.

Welcome to CAF, Die_Grau_Ecken.

Point 1: If you don’t believe that the Church teaches Jesus got crucified because of our sins, what do you believe He had died for?

Point 2: as you mentioned in Point 1, you hang on to the Blessed Virgin Mary and all the saints; I am very happy for you. If others are not setting true examples of a real Christians, then follow BVM and the saints; however, do not let the bad ones stop following BVM and the Saints.

And if you are following the Saints, please read about their spirituality and how they follow Christ and the teaching of the Church.

God bless.

I would like to befriend Jesus and serve him (because he was so amazing) but get to Heaven by his bloodshed?

**You can’t choose how you get into Heaven. The way was already prepared without consulting you a long time ago.

You either accept it or reject it–but don’t count on getting into heaven on your own efforts. It won’t work.**

There are many ways of considering The Crucifixion - many valid ways. Can you think of it as Jesus, having preached The Kingdom publicly for three years, it finally came to either denying what He had preached or his execution by crucifixion. Jesus chose to stay true to what He proclaimed and it cost Him His life. He was perfect in Obedience to His Father to the end. Like us He was fully human and subject to cause and effect and He accepted this fully human nature to the end. This, St. Paul tells us, will be a stumbling block to many

As to the second part of your statement, wherever human beings gather in a type of common bond/ideal, some will be true to that bond, others will not. Those that are not true do not, in essence, diminish the worthwhile nature of that common bond/ideal, since they are not living by it in the first place. Rather those who strive to live in unity with that common bond and ideal speak to its worthwhile nature.

Blessings and regards…Barb:)

Not knowing your age, I’d say it might be too late for you to choose any religion other than Christianity. Christian teachings might be deeply instilled in your subconscious, which means that no matter what you feel or want, consciously, you do in fact believe in Christ, deep down, perhaps without fully realizing it. One proof will be how you react to truly threatening circumstances in your life. If you find yourself almost instinctively praying to Christ, you’ll know for sure.
