I’m having a fairly civil discussion on Youtube about the morality of abortion and I need something to say to this:

Adoption IS an option for a birthed baby, but not for an unwillingly pregnant girl or woman unless she wants to give birth. Though there are orphanages choc a bloc with orphans.

IF a fetus had a will, knowledge or sense of being or consciousness abortion could be ‘wrong’, but it doesn’t, it is simply a potential neonate, and usually within 13 weeks of conception at abortion.

Of course, it’s youtube so religious arguments aren’t gonna work.

Ok. So, I think I had a good argument against it. But the conversation probably won’t be over until, possibly, tommorrow night. So, responses are still welcome 😃

I just always have to shake my head at stuff like this. If we were filming a live birth and at the point at which the baby emerged, and all agree we have a human baby, if we were to rewind the film, at what point do these people think a human baby is not a human?

The instant of conception is when life begins.

Thank you! I’m afraid I might not have enough information to be able to come up with good arguments against this. So, if anyone wants to help out here is the link.

I’ll be spending my day finding outmore information on this topic.

You could also find film footage of interview with women who have had abortions and are very sad that they had them because of not realizing the fetus was indeed a human being with a soul instilled by God, and the anguish they feel about killing the baby also. abortion harms the psyche, because of the realization that it is a human being capable of that persons love that causes the mental anguish in those who abort babies.

I might try this, but I’m almost positive they will have an argument against it.🙂

The libertarian argument would be as follows:

The three most important things in a free and open society are life, liberty, and property in that specific order. You cannot have moral imperative if you deny another person the first to guarantee the second or third. A baby did not choose to be conceived, nor did it choose or is in any way responsible for it’s current situation. It is no different from cold bloodily shooting someone who was placed on your property and has no means to move off and has not intentionally done anything to harm your your property. You do it because because they annoy you, killed your grass, or inconvenience you in some way. The only way you can morally justify it is if you can guarantee that there is no person or organization who will take in, help or adopt this child in the world.

Now, this is classical liberalism not the crazy Randian nihilism that permeates most internet libertarians.

To this I would say that there are many many couples waiting to adopt. It is not hard these days to find couples who are trying to have a baby but having no success.

To this I would say…
If “a will, knowledge or a sense of being or consciousness” is what determines a person’s right to live, then when someone faints, goes unconscious, is having surgury under anaesthetic, etc. does their right to live go away? I think not.

Good luck!

Praytell, where are these orphanages? They only exist in places where the govm’t wants to “sell” babies. In the free world, people are begging to adopt.

Watch this new film. It’s not specifically Catholic but it’s solid on the non-logic of abortion. It might give you some inspiration.

There have been NO orphanages in this country for decades
so I can’t imagine what your oponent is saying. Really.

Adoption agencies in this country are backed up with
waiting lists since they are so few babies free for adoption.

Furthermore those who say “no brain function” were once in the same position.
Every single person alive today is a FORMER fetus.

The thing on adoption was a refutation to one of my arguments. Thanks everyone that helped out. The conversation had cooled down significantly, but I’ll be sure to look at these when it heats back up.

IF.
In this country, no, there are not, not with healthy infants available for adoption. What orphanages still function usually house older children, those with special needs or who other wise are harder to find placements for, have not been released for adoption by birth parents, but no, there is a shortage of healthy infants and estimates as high as a million qualified couples each year waiting to adopt an infant. virtually all such adoption placement agencies operating under Catholic auspices offer supportive care for pregnant women who are contemplating giving up the child for adoption, so there is a wealth of support and assistance for the woman who decides not to abort, yet cannot raise the child herself.
