Mr the man, because we don’t know what it is you did (because it’s none of our business) it’s hard to understand where your unease lies within your act of confession. You say it was a grave act though and that leaves whatever it is you did entirely open to interpretation. But I will do my best to give you my thoughts on the situation.

Although you sound very sorry for what you did, it doesn’t sound like you have forgiven yourself for it. Seeking forgiveness from God is fine, but you need to be able to forgive yourself as well to reach any peace. Not being able to tell the priest directly about what happened shows that you are still unresolved inside. It sounds like you understand the gravity of what you did, but it doesn’t sound like you are ready to accept the accountability of your actions. I don’t think you will find peace on this until you do though. If you talk to your priest again and tell him the full story, he will be better able help you. Just don’t ask for forgiveness though, also ask for advice on the matter.

Best of luck mate.

You said you were sure the priest did not understand. What you must understand is that what the priest understands is irrelivant. The priest is not forgiving you. He is a stand in for God. God is the one who needs to understand, and the one who you need to convince of your contrition.

Do you really think He misunderstood?

If you go back to confession, even to another priest, it is still God you are talking to. Think what he will say.

“What, you again? Didn’t we already talk about this?. You did not believe me the first time?”

Re-reading theses posts makes me feel like the bulk of the advice is on the borderline between what is for a layperson to advise, and what is for a priest only to advise, especially about advising to go or to not go to communion. I will remember you in my prayers. Try to include the Blessed Mother in your petition for light, she is the refuge of sinners. Peace of Christ to you,
Franciscanhobbit
