Jet Blue Flight to Attempt ‘Soft Landing’ After Landing Gear Jams

A Jet Blue flight with 145 people aboard, which was flying from Burbank, Calif., to New York, will attempt to make a “soft landing” after it landing gear jammed. The Airbus 320 (search) took off from Burbank Airport at 6:17 p.m. EDT, but turned around after its landing gear didn’t raise and was apparently twisted.
The jetliner attempted and failed to make an emergency landing at Long Beach airport after the problem was discovered. The plane, which is roughly the size of a Boeing 737, began dumping fuel into the Pacific Ocean in preparation for the emergency procedure.

started praying as soon as I saw it on the news. May God hold all of those people in the palm of his hand.

They just said it will land in 10-12 minutes. May God protect them. 😦

Praying for the safe landing and no harm to come to those on the ground.

They’ll be alright. He’ll keep the nose gear off the ground as long as possible, either the nose gear will break off and the nose will skid along, or it’ll veer off the runway. Either way the speed will be scrubbed off and everyone will walk away. I’ll pray for that.

One more reason to fly Boeing aircraft. Leave the food and wine to the French.

Lord Jesus, hold this people close in Your Most Sacred Heart. Sweet Mary, pray for them.

The nose gear could also straighten up. If the steering rod or actuator has broken, the nose gear should caster. If that’s the case, directional control is through differential braking, rudder and thrust control. A castering nosewheel is the best possible thing. They can keep the airplane under total control to a safe, full-stop landing.

He is still burning off fuel. When enough is gone he will land at Los Angeles. We have another hour and a half of sun; assume he will want to land in daylight.

While all airports are equipped for emergencies Los Angeles probably has the more experienced personnel. Also Los Angeles has four long runways vs one for Long Beach. This will slow Los Angeles where it completely shut down Long Beach.

This from the Los Angeles news channels.

If I remember correctly the nose gear rotates sideways before retracting. It appears that it jammed in that rotation.

Hail Mary, full of grace The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Prayers going out for all the people onboard. May God guide the pilots and crew to land this aircraft safely.

Sort of, Its an Airbus A320, made in France but the same company that made the A340 that crashed in Toronto.

If it ain’t Boeing I ain’t going 😉
My prayers for a safe landing

Piece of cake. Pilot wasn’t 6 inces left of the runway centerline. Beautiful job. For the nose gear, ‘treat it right…keep it light’. Nice job, Captain.

Fly Boeing!
