After a long phone call with my ex-wife and another with my sister, I’ve come to realize that a sin I confessed is worse than I thought. I confessed being impatient, cross, and angry with my 3-year old son. In conversation with my sister, I have come to believe in my ex-wife’s statement that I yell. I don’t know how much of the “I’m scared of Daddy” and “I don’t want to go to his house” and “Daddy doesn’t love me” statements to believe. She always did have accuracy problems, but I do know that I had to correct the cat while talking to my sister, and she said that it would sound scary to a toddler.
All this means that I’ve damaged a relationship with my son, who was entrusted to me by God. I have failed in my duty as a parent, and I may have caused irreparable damage to the relationship. The only thing I want in life any more at this point (my MS is going downhill) is to have a son who loves me and will be at my bedside when I die like we assume was the case for St. Joseph. I also have to worry about what values I have taught him. The biggest concern is HOW TO FIX THE DAMAGE I’VE DONE, and I’m very sad to say that I don’t know how. I don’t know how to be patient. I don’t know how to monitor my voice or my mood; his mother says that he’s very sensitive to peoples’ moods.
I’ve been praying over this in my daily prayer routine, along with several other concerns, but now I have to consider the scary thought that I have been sabotaging God through my choices and actions. That raises several other scary thoughts, but this is too long already. I’m really afraid tonight. Please pray for me. I want my son to love me. I don’t want to be pushed out of the picture at all, like I’ve suspected is happening, and I certainly don’t want to help her do that. I want to teach him good things. I want to make God happy by doing the job of a father as best I can in my situation. I need prayers but most of all I need to do my part, which I have failed at.
