Today, on EWTN radio, I was listening to Jesse Romero and his
broadcast about the United States Congress and how pro-abortionists in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate have voted to gut Ronald Reagan’s Mexico City Policy.

The Mexico City Policy (which is not just related to Mexico City) is the 23-year old U.S. policy that forbids U.S. taxpayer support of any organization that performs or even promotes abortion. Before this policy, Planned Parenthood and U.N. Population Fund (UNFPA) were illegally looting the U.S. treasury of hundreds of millions of dollars and using huge amounts of that money to bankroll abortion! But pro-life groups and Reagan put a stop to this with the Mexico City Policy. Because of Reagan’s Mexico City Policy, Planned Parenthood was completely stripped of $195 million in U.S. funding --thousands of innocent children were saved because of this legislation. Now, Congress is seeking to reverse this legislation so that organizations that fund abortion can once again receive tax payer money… and it may happen in a matter of weeks!!!

How can you help? Visit this webpage, read the information, and sign the petition:

pop.org/prospects/mcpp/MCPURL–homepage.html

Remember, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Do not remain silent…please, sign the petition.

God Bless,
Katrina

I signed and will be calling my congressmen. I am sure the other side is already putting pressure on them if both the house and senate passed it.

Now my tax dollars again will be funding International Planned Parenthood. NO THANKS.

The online petition is not just any online petition sent around by email —it is a petition that is forwarding your name and email address to the white house by a reputable organization, the Population Research Institute. See www.pop.org for more details.

Also, you can read this recent article from October 18 which has links to the house and senate so that you can email and/or call your representatives and congressmen to vote to uphold the Mexico City Policy --more effective than just signing the petition.

See:
nchla.org/actiondisplay.asp?ID=257

This really is urgent if you do not wish your tax dollars to be used to support the distribution of contraception and the funding of abortions globally.

Please forward this information to anyone you know.

It really doesn’t matter if it is forwarded by email or not (though your advocating sending it on to “everyone you know” is set to make it one, isn’t it?). It still has the same inherent credibility problems and lack of effectiveness. Anyone could generate that information. The same with form letters. Also, the representative has no way of knowing if any of these people are in his/her constituency or not—the ones who have the power to vote him or her in and out of office. Those are the folks they listen to.

If you want to be effective, then choose other methods such as writing or calling your representatives (using your own words rather than a form letter, btw, and including your address and the fact that you live in the representative’s district). It will make a much bigger impression.

And please, don’t forward this to everyone you know or everyone for whom you have an email address. At least make some attempt to ascertain that they both share your politcal views and welcome such things. I cannot begin to tell you how utterly disgusted I am with folks who have my email address for some reason then assume that that gives them blanket permission to send me everything that possibly comes down the pike or that I must think exactly like them on every issue.

KarenNC, thank you for all of your (name removed by moderator)ut. If you personally disagree with fighting for the right to life, this is not the thread for you. I am trying to spread the word and use the method that PRI asked its readers to use to spread the word.

You don’t have to reply, there are other threads/forums to visit.

Thank you buffalo —your link was fascinating and proof that email is a very, very effective way to spread the word so that people can take action.

God Bless You!

Sending an email that says, “Contact your congressional representatives about X” is one thing. A call has some weight with congress members. A personally written letter has more (a well-written letter indicates knowledge and interest about the topic of the letter). A pre-printed post card has less. An e-mail can have some but not as much as a call or letter. E-petitions are another thing altogether, as the Snopes article demonstrates.

People, people, people…I posted not because I want to discuss the effectiveness of online petitions or email…I posted because I want to defend LIFE! I do not want my tax payer money to fund any organization that distributes contraception and funds abortions.

Please, stop undermining the effectiveness of this post and use your energy to spread the word. If you send the email, send the link with the article so that you can contact congress, and tell your friends that the Mexico City Policy is currently under attack —we can all work and pray that this very important policy is not voted down.

We may only have a matter of weeks!!!

It would seem that this thread is being derailed by those we want to turn it into a discussion about how effective online petitions are. I note that most of those objecting are people who are not too enthusiastic about pro-life issues anyway. If one wants to start a thread on the effectiveness of online petitions it’s easy to do

How DARE you assume where my heart is or what I believe? Just who do you think you are?

Thank you estes bob!!!

See my first/previous posts —I am trying to defend life here, not the effectiveness of online petitions and email.

Please go to anther thread if all you want to do is undermine this post.

Then let’s all call our Congressmembers and tell them what we think. THAT’S what I was trying to say. An e-petition would be ignored but a phone call or letter won’t. I’ll call on my lunch break.

I plan on doing both. It should be noted that the Mexico City policy was the very first thing Bill Clinton voided the day he took office.

Thanks. Did you happen to note their strategy? Doesn’t mention signing online petitions at all
onemillionmoms.com/works.asp

*"Here’s how the One Million Moms Campaign works. It is free to join and does not require a large investment of time.

We contact you, via e-mail, with information about a particular target (TV network, sponsor, or station), giving you a link to a “take action” page on the website.

Following instructions on the page, you e-mail the responsible party voicing your concern.

Through a “tell-a-friend” feature on the page you forward the take action information to your friends and family members encouraging them to join the One Million Moms campaign and voice their concerns as well.

Your only commitment is to send the e-mail on behalf of our children. "*

Individual emails. Not an online petition that doesn’t identify you as a constituent of that legislator. Personally, I think the default email letter is much less effective than one that is personally composed and obviously took more than 5 seconds, but that is another issue.

Now, how well does online petitioning work with legislators, the target audience for this particular petition?
