Our Lady of America has appeared to a nun in Ohio asking for a statue to be built and for the statue of Our Lady of America to be enthroned in the Immaculate Conception shrine in Wash. D.C. and many miracles would happen. Her statue is now traveling in NY and NJ. These apparations are fulling canonically approved. Go to www.ourladyofamerica.com Go to “latest News” Sept. 10, scheduled events to she the schedule of where the statue will be visiting. Our Lady looks American and is a beautiful 9’ statue.

Can you please tell me where to go to find the full canonical approval. I’ve tried googling but cannot find it.
Are you sure the apparitions have the approval of Rome and not just the local Bishop.

Thanks for introducing Our Lady of America, JenniferM!

I looked at the link you gave. Also perhaps this excerpt [from here: http://www.ourladyofamerica.com/Approval.php ] seems to answer Thistle’s question about canonical approval:

**July 4th, 2007 - Fostoria, OH **

This devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of Our Lady of America enjoys complete canonical approval through former Archbishop of Cincinatti, OH, the late Paul Francis Leibold. Through his written correspondence and public actions, Archbishop Leibold approved for public devotion this private apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Sister Mary Ephrem (Mildred Neuzil).

Furthermore, many other Bishops have also shown their approval by their promotion of this devotion. The Most Reverend Raymond L. Burke, Archbishop of Saint Louis, a world renowned canon lawyer, issued a letter opinion on Our Lady of America. In his letter dated May 31, 2007, he reviews the history of Our Lady of America and the actions of Archbishop Leibold approving this devotion. From Archbishop Burke:

“What can be concluded canonically is that the devotion was both approved by Archbishop Leibold and, what is more, was actively promoted by him. In addition, over the years, other Bishops have approved the devotion and have participated in public devotion to the Mother of God, under the title of Our Lady of America.”

Does this answer thistle’s question?
Perhaps this might open a discussion about what full canaonical approval is and what it isn’t.

In my understanding, if Rome disapproves, its definitively disapproved. But Rome doesn’t speak on everything. The canon lawyer quoted here seems to define the approval explained here as “full canonical approval”.

Is there other information available that says this canon lawyer is wrong about this definition?

Just wondering!

*Oh Immaculate Mother, Queen of our country, open our hearts, our homes, and our land to the coming of Jesus, your Divine Son. With Him, reign over us, O heavenly Lady, so pure and so bright with the radiance of Gods light shining in and about you. Be our leader against the powers of evil set upon wresting the world of souls, redeemed at such a great cost by the sufferings of your Son and of yourself, in union with Him, from that same Savior, Who loves us with infinite charity.

We gather about you, O chaste and holy Mother, Virgin Immaculate, Patroness of our beloved Land, determined to fight under your banner of holy purity against the wickedness that would make all the world an abyss of evil, without God and without your loving maternal care.

We consecrate our hearts, our homes, our Land to your Most Pure Heart, O great Queen, that the kingdom of your Son, our Redeemer and our God, may be firmly established in us.

We ask no special sign of you, sweet Mother, for we believe in your great love for us, and we place in you our entire confidence. We promise to honor you by faith, love, and the purity of our lives according to your desire.

Reign over us, then, O Virgin Immaculate, with your Son Jesus Christ. May His Divine Heart and your most chaste Heart be ever enthroned and glorified among us. Use us, your children of America, as your instruments of peace among men and nations. Work your miracle of grace in us, so that we may be a glory to the Blessed Trinity, Who created, redeemed, and sanctifies us.

May your valiant spouse, St. Joseph, with the holy Angels and Saints, assist you and us in “renewing the face of the earth.” Then when our work is over, come, Holy Immaculate Mother, and as our Victorious Queen, lead us to the eternal kingdom, where your Son reigns forever as King.*

This is just WRONG.

I will try to find out where it states the procedures for canonical approval of apparitions. I know that it is the job of the local bishop, not the vatican or Pope, but I do not have proofs of where it is written in canon law. I will find out. fyi, not only was the apparition approved by the bishop of Ohio, but the bishops of NY and NJ allowed her statue into their cathedrals for veneration and Bishop Burke is actively promoting her. There has been no negative responses from any bishops. Either way it is the job of the local bishop. I’ll get back to you on this. Jennifer

Apparitions are Spirituality…NOT Apologetics.
Moved accordingly.

I think maybe if the person who wrote from the Non-Denominational church understands where we get devotion to Mary he will understand better. It began with tradition. When Jesus was on this earth his friends and apostles visited him often at his home. Because they loved Jesus, they also loved and respected His parents. I loved the parents of my best friend growing up. They were like a second family to me. Now, when Jesus was out or so busy people would naturally ask Mary to talk to Jesus for them, tell Jesus this or that, ask him this favor. They did not pray to or worship Mary. They only respected her and loved her as the Mother of Jesus and asked her to ask Jesus. Also, the Jewish people were waiting for centuries for the Messia. They had to bring their first born to the temple and all mothers were hoping that they would be choosen to be the Mother of the Messia. So there was a great reverance and respect for the one who was choosen to bring the Messia into the world and hold him in her womb. Now, when Mary died, she told the apostles she would continue to bring their requests to Jesus. We do not in any way worship Mary. We love and respect her as the Mother of Jesus. And we know that Jesus himself has a special love for his Mother. How could He not love his mother in a special way? If one of my friends is nice to my mother I am happy. If someone treats my mother badly I am sad. So, it is with Jesus! He wants us to love her. We are well aware as Catholics that She is nothing compared to Jesus. Jesus is God, but He loves Mary and so do we.
The Catholic Church can be traced back to the time of Jesus. It is the only Religion started in the time of Jesus. The first Pope was St. Peter, choosen by Jesus. History can tell you that their has never been an interuption in Popes. Jesus promised that the gates of Hell will not prevail against the church He formed.

The Bishop approves the devotion - not the apparition. The Church does not approve private revelation. The Bishop has the authority to determine if the faithful should be allowed to promote the devotion. In order to do this, the Bishop usually conducts an investigation. The main things they are looking at are whether it is **possible **that the apparition is supernatural and whether there is anything in the private revelation that it contrary to the faith. Is the answer to the first is “yes” and the second is “no”, the Bishop may allow groups to organize and promote the devotions.

St. Faustina? Private revelation approved by the Church, even have a Feast Day…the one and only though…am I right?

Nope, and not Fatima or Lourdes either even though there are feast days for them too. The Church approves and promotes the devotion, even canonizes the person who was given the revelation but does not put a stamp of approval on the revelation itself.

Catholics are free to believe or not believe all private revelation.

Apparitions, private revelations, visions have a formal approval process. Local Bishop approval is only the first step. If local approval is given that does NOT mean it has Church approval. After local approval it moves on to Rome and the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith do investigations and give the final approval or decline.
To say it is Church approved because it has local approval is not correct.

This… Is… AWSOME!!!

Praise be to God!!!

Help me out here Corki, got me curious.

Private Revelation, would that mean involving just one person?

Fatima and Lourdes, more than one person involved.

Anyway, I do understand what you are saying on the rest about approval. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

There are only (as far as I know) two types: public revelation and private revelation. The Church teaches that public revelation ended with the death of the last apostle. The revelation that comes from those who are visited by apparations and the revelation that comes from visionaries is considered private revelation, no matter how many people are involved.

This is just WRONG.
I see nothing wrong. America has always came to the rescue of other countries to get rid of evil and will continue to do so.

The Declaration of Independence of the United States of America acknowledges faith towards a supreme God who created mankind. The Declaration also acknowledges by all who signed it, the laws of God, the providence of God, and the judgment of God.

The Declaration also appeals to God as the Supreme Judge of the world for their intentions. Furthermore, for the support of this Declaration, the signers relied firmly on the protection of Divine Providence.

I received a response to the question about the approval of the apparitions of “Our Lady of America” from their web site. Here is the answer.
Dear Jennifer,

When one has a question about law they ask a lawyer for the answer.

The Our Lady of America Center had the same question about Canon Law in relation to this apparition and the actions/approvals of Archbishop Leibold in this regard. So we asked a Canon Lawyer to issue an opinion on the status of the approval or Our Lady of America. That Canon Lawyer is the world renowned expert, Archbishop Raymond L. Burke. He issued an opinion letter which he sent to all U.S. Bishop in May of 2007, in which he concludes that this apparition of Our Lady was completely approved by Archbishop Leibold. This letter was accepted by the U.S. Bishops. See www.ourladyofamerica.com/Approval.php

Archbishop Burke was recently appointed by Pope Benedict XVI to the Roman Rota – the supreme court of the Church.

There is no requirement that the Pope or the Vatican approve this apparition. The Bishop of Jurisdiction has all the authority under Canon Law to do so.

May Jesus Bless you and Our Lady of America intercede for you.
