Help me out here Corki, got me curious.

Private Revelation, would that mean involving just one person?

Fatima and Lourdes, more than one person involved.

Anyway, I do understand what you are saying on the rest about approval. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
Public revelation ended with the death of the last Apostle. It is the public revelation that we are all required to believe.

Private revelation is anything revealed after the end of the public revelation, regardless of the number of visionaries or people involved. The only ones obliged to give assent to private revelation are the ones to whom it is directly given. For the rest of us, we may choose whether or not to believe.

I received a response to the question about the approval of the apparitions of “Our Lady of America” from their web site. Here is the answer.
Dear Jennifer,

When one has a question about law they ask a lawyer for the answer.

The Our Lady of America Center had the same question about Canon Law in relation to this apparition and the actions/approvals of Archbishop Leibold in this regard. So we asked a Canon Lawyer to issue an opinion on the status of the approval or Our Lady of America. That Canon Lawyer is the world renowned expert, Archbishop Raymond L. Burke. He issued an opinion letter which he sent to all U.S. Bishop in May of 2007, in which he concludes that this apparition of Our Lady was completely approved by Archbishop Leibold. This letter was accepted by the U.S. Bishops. See www.ourladyofamerica.com/Approval.php

Archbishop Burke was recently appointed by Pope Benedict XVI to the Roman Rota – the supreme court of the Church.

There is no requirement that the Pope or the Vatican approve this apparition. The Bishop of Jurisdiction has all the authority under Canon Law to do so.

May Jesus Bless you and Our Lady of America intercede for you.

This is my understanding as well. I just recently heard about this (in July of this year) and have been rigorously investigating. To receive full canonical approval does NOT require an OK from The Vatican. That being said, it does give more credence and affirmation when The Holy Father gives approval by either publicly affirming the devotion (and apparition) or a visit to the site itself as John Paul did when he made a visit to Fatima.

It doesn’t make any logical sense to me to approve the devotion without approving the apparition. Why would we consider the devotion out of nowhere? Wouldn’t hold much weight.

Regardless, Our Lady of America does indeed have Full Canonical Approval. It would be wonderful for the Holy Father to give it the thumbs up, but usually these things take a very long time.

A book/diary is available on “Our Lady of America.”

Our Lady of America Messages

Sept. 26 was the 51st anniversary of the apparitions. Here is a capsule history:

September 26, 2007 Fifty First Anniversary

"Who is She who comes forth like the morning rising,
fair as the Moon, bright as the Sun,
terrible as an army set in battle array?"
[Song of Solomon 6:10]

Hmmmm…disappointingly interesting. I have signed up for newsletters from the "other"site but have added this one to my favorites and will not visit the other one again. Really sad that you cannot trust anyone and I mean ANYONE anymore. I am encouraged however, as I have read at the authentic site that OLA has a growing number of Bishops that have approved, support and actually promote her!👍 As I said on another thread, I plan to visit Sylvan Springs in Rome City, Indiana this coming season. I believe it is only a 4 hour drive from me. They have weekend tours and group rosaries and confessions all weekend long according to the info I have.

This does seem to be rather heavily promoted recently. I remember reading awhile back that Bishop Leipold approved the medal and the prayer she wrote but died before he could give full approval of her messages or the statue. He was her spiritual adviser and they corresponded about her messages. Many of the messages continued after he died.

Some of her messages as I recall, I read several years ago and were a little controversial. I remember reading about one where St Joseph appeared to her and claimed that he too was conceived without sin or something to that effect, which seemed a little odd for humble St Joseph to be presenting a new revelation about himself.

This was in 1959 when she wanted her “Lady of America” statue to be placed in the Basilica Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in DC. Yet there are already an enormous number of statues and shrines to Our Lady at the shrine and our country has already been dedicated to her years ago under her title ‘Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception’.

We also have already Our Lady of Guadalupe as patroness of the Americas so although there appears to be much recent enthusiam for this dated apparition and seer, I remain someone perplexed about why this is considered important and why the sudden new interest and promotion.

On the official site if you read the ‘messages.’ On page 4 you can see the message from ‘st joseph’ given Oct 1956 which begins,
“It is true my daughter, that immediately after my conception, I was, through the future merits of Jesus and because of my exceptional role of future Virgin-Father, cleansed from the stain of original sin…” the rest can be read on the site which includes st joseph’s statement that be became in union with his holy spouse “co-redemptor” of the human race.

I guess this is the message I remembered and referred to in my post above.

I am no theologian, so maybe it’s fine, but I remember something didn’t hit me right about it.

I thought that odd as well. But on the official site you will read (as you will on the site claiming to be the “approved” (? for lack of a better description) site that many Bishops throughout the country have approved and promote the devotion. Now, I understand, that approving the “devotion” is not the same as approving the “message” or the “apparitions and messages”. This logic, however, does not make sense to me, because if a Bishop is in approval of the “devotion” and not the “messages” it is contradictory.🤷

no private revelation means not public revelation, that is, not the revealed Word of God, which revelation is complete and entire in the Person of Jesus Christ, 2nd person of the Trinity, Incarnate, Died and Risen, as preserved and transmitted by the Catholic Church, under the protection of the Holy Spirit as Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, received universally and for all time, and closed to new revelation at the death of the last apostle, recipients and witnesses of the completion of Revelation.

private revelation is received locally in time and space to one or a few persons and the messages received are directed to specific persons in specific times and places, and contain NOTHING that contradicts divine revelation. If a purported message does contradict, it is proof of falsity.

according to Fr. Groeschel, discussing Sr. Faustina and Divine Mercy with one of the priests of the order promoting it on his show last week, the Church never approves the apparitions, only the messages, and popular devotion derived from the messages, and even if the recipients of the message are later canonized, it is on the same basis as every saint, proof of sanctity and heroic virtue in life (or by martyrdom) including miracles after their death, not only because of the apparition.

follow up thought… the site that was recently established by Sr. Joseph Therese (heir to the messages) states in her recent letter that they are in no rush to promote this, but want the Holy Spirit to guide the spread of OLA messages and devotion according to God’s timetable and not ours. Kind of inferred that the site that had been hijacked was pushing it too fast. Sr.Joseph Therese says the devotion and messages should not be a “passing fancy” by a hard and fast sell so to speak. As far as St. Joseph, I really would have to investigate. I really don’t know what the Church teaches or if she teaches anything about this. It wouldn’t make sense that this message about him is absolutely false or against what the Church professes because it wouldn’t have the endorsement of the many Bishops it has in the U.S. If it really is gaining widespread approval, they would have to have studied the messages wouldn’t you think? (just thinking out loud as I usually do:D )

Dear Byer, there is absolutely nothing controversial about the messages of Our Lady of America and St. Joseph never appeared saying he was conceived immaculate. Where do you get your information?? If it were true I would never ever promote her. I am 100% true to the Vatican and Holy Father and I never follow or promote anything unapproved. If I ever found out there was anything against the teachings of the Catholic Church I would be the first to say so. I ask readers to go to the web site and read the approvals themselves and the messages. Archbishop Burke is a very holy Bishop and is promoting these apparitions and many other holy priests and bishops. I know it is a confusing time with so many false and/or unapproved apparitions that we have to show caution so as not to be led astray. Please go to the web site yourself and you will see there is no contraversal messages and also click on “Learn more” and “approval” to read the approvals. I don’t know if you are doing a search maybe to get your information, then you could be lead astray. There is a lot of information on the internet, some true and some not true. Why don’t you contact Bishop Burke’s office and ask him your questions and get your information from Bishops true to the Catholic Church. If we follow authentic, true to the Vatican Bishops, Priests and the Holy Father we will not be led astray and will not lead others astray. Again, read the messages yourself, there is absolutely nothing controversal, only asking for purity and to pray the Rosary. Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

If you look at either web site (the official or the one Sr. Joseph Therese set up due to web masters shinnanigans) in the message where St. Joseph is speaking to Sr. Mary (Mildred Nuezil) he clearly states that immediately following his conception and by the merits of Jesus for St. Joseph’s future role in being His virgin-father, he was cleansed of original sin and infused with Divine Grace. Now here is where the confusion comes in…does this coincide with Church teaching? Or is there anything even IN Church teaching that states this one way or the other? Look at page 4 in www.ave-ourladyofamerica.com of the message section and you will find where St. Joseph states this to Sr. Mildred.
My contention is that according to Sr. Joseph Therese (the heir to St. Mildred’s documented account) there are now many Bishops in the US that have approved and are supporting and even promoting this devotion. You would logically think that these Bishops have of course read the messages, yes? (I guess what I’m saying is that they should know what is correct Church teaching about this point as I really don’t know)

And maybe the key here is that he states: Immediately AFTER my conception I was cleansed of original sin. That would tell you that you are very correct, no, he was not conceived IMMACULATELY, but cleansed of original sin IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING HIS CONCEPTION. I think here is where the confusion lies.

Excellent ! St. Joseph was destined by God to be the earthly foster father to His Son Jesus A random choice? I don’t think so. Thank you. Very plausible explanation.,

hey all I havent read much of the top ( as there is much and little patience from me to read:D )

but check this

“But to make your hearts more like the son, you must go to the sun”

so Jesus is the way truth/light. and I must go to him to get to the father correct? ( i love to pray to marry and im catholic:) I pray to marry much too:) )

but it doesnt say i need to go to marry. to get to the father

so if this true. i dont need to make my heart more like the son.
all i need to do is just follow My lord Jesus.
But i dont think this is true. and i need a heart like the son. I desire it. 👍

that what I think

Teelyn, Thank you for explaining. Being cleansed immediately after conception is not the same as the Immaculate Conception and it is not contrary to Church teachings. Immaculate Conception is exactly what it says, being freed from sin at the moment of conception. The church teaches that St. John the Baptism was freed from original sin in the womb of St. Ann, before he was born when Jesus visited him in the womb. If St. John the Baptist was freed from original sin in the womb, then certainly God would give that same grace to the foster father of Jesus. St. Joseph is the greatest saint after Mary. Also, in the books written by Mary of Agrada, the Life of the Blessed Virgin Mary, it states the same exact thing about St. Joseph. These books are written in the time of Mary of Agrada (not sure when that was, but I read the books about 25 years ago). These books are fully approved by the church. There are many other books written about St. Joseph that also states that he was cleansed of original sin in the womb (in the womb: not at conception). This is different than being conceived without original sin and it is definitely approval by the Catholic Church. You can do a search about the Birth of John the Baptist or maybe St. John the Baptist cleansed of original sin in the womb. Here is one site causedejoie.blogspot.com/2007/06/solemnity-of-birth-of-st-john-baptist.html The bishops would have never approved Our Lady of America if this was false doctrine. Jennifer

Jennifer,
Yes, I have heard that about John the Baptist although never followed up looking for documented facts. Thanks for the site of referral. I had to actually go back to OLA site and reread again myself in re: to St. Joseph’s statement to Sr. Mildred. If you read over it quickly there is a tendency to miss it. I can see where the confusion comes in. For further confirmation, if people think it through they would trust that the Bishops that are supporting and promoting this have read the messages backwards, forwards and upside down before giving their approval.😉

Blessings:)

“By thy holy and Immaculate Conception O Mary, deliver us from evil.”

I can only read the first page of messages, which is from the Lord. The link to go to the next page isn’t working. But what you describe sounds like Baptism, doesn’t it? Tim

Mini gerbil, wrap your head around this. Think of Mary as the eastern gate that Jesus passed through. She is the mother of the Church and our mother by commandment. You have to go to Church to be a member of the body of Christ. On earth as in heaven. You go to Mary, she will bring you to her son. She is an advocate to the Son for us as Jesus is the advocate to the Father. Think about it for a while. Tim
