US Bishop Change: Santa Rosa & Baker

This morning the Holy See announced the decision of Pope Benedict XVI to name Bishop Robert Francis Vasa as Coadjutor Bishop of Santa Rosa in California, USA.

Bishop Vasa had been serving as Bishop of Baker, Oregon.

The Holy Father must think well of Bishop Vasa, that he would move him to a better climate, etc.

Though the climate of Santa Rosa may be better than Baker, one must be careful about viewing this as necessarily good. After all, though Santa Rosa’s climate may be warmer than the climate of Baker, it is also closer in degree to the fires of hell.

I guess a joke is bad when you have to explain it. I was just joking that although Santa Rosa does indeed have a better climate than Baker, it is all relative. After all, if Santa Rosa is warmer than Baker it is also closer in degrees to the proverbial fires of hell. In spite of my bad joke, I’m sure the new Bishop will find (dare I say it) a warm welcome from the good folks in Santa Rosa. Congratulations to all concerned.
