Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano received two standing ovations
US Roman Catholic bishops, at an annual assembly on Monday, gave two standing ovations to the Vatican ambassador behind Pope Francis’s controversial meeting with the Kentucky clerk who was jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano received the warm reception as he made his customary address to the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, his first major public appearance since the controversy over Kim Davis. Vigano turns 75 in January, the age when bishops are required to submit their resignations to the Pope.

The headline is a bit misleading. It makes it sound like they gave Archbishop a standing ovation because of the Kim Davis invitation even though the article itself says her name was never mentioned.

He’s the nuncio to the United States. He’s got a lot more going on than that one invitation. 🤷

Thank you so much for the clarification! I have read where there are those in the Vatican that are still livid over the Davis meeting since it was done in a questionable manner without consulting Papa Francis’ advisors.🤷

If they are, it’s a manufactured outrage. In the whole scheme of things, Kim Davis was way down on the list of controversial people who met the Pope during his US visit. Many of them were not vetted by the Pope’s advisors. It happens every time the Pope travels and a lot of the times the Pope has large audiences. Just goes with the territory.
