The Pope would no longer select most bishops in a vision of restored Christian unity outlined by the North American Orthodox-Catholic Theological Consultation. The North American …

the Roman curia’s relationship to local bishops and episcopal conferences in the Latin Church would become less centralized: bishops, for instance, would have more control over the agenda and the final documents of synods, and the selection of bishops would again normally become a local process.
Hmmm… this makes me suspicious… what does taking away the pope’s role in choosing Latin rite bishops have to do with ecumenism with the Orthodox? I can think of one particular group that would like this, and the group I have in mind is not the orthodox.

Papal infallibility is dogma…Right? and dogma can never change…right? then how can our 2 churches ever reconcile if the Orthodox will only reunite if we change that…that would make the Church fallible for change our believe in the pope being infallible…:confused:

I don’t think that papal infallibility would be affected in any significant way. Infallible pronouncements, which are few and far between, are supposed to reflect the consensus among the bishops of the Church that a particular doctrine is universally held. Nothing about the proposals would change that – the Pope would consult with Orthodox patriarchs and bishops in the same way that he does Western Catholic bishops. Of course, the teaching of the Church would necessarily reflect both Roman and Orthodox views on important subjects, which would likely enrich Catholic teaching and practice.

The proposals would certainly shift power away from the Pope and Curia to local, regional and ecumenical councils of bishops, while retaining the unique role of the Pope as head of the worldwide church. All in all, I’d welcome such a change.

Hi Moderators,
Can we get rid of this emmanouil character…he sent me an e-mail completely bashing Holy Mother Church…He should not be able to do that on a Roman Catholic website. when I can say something about mormons. He was also trying to tell me to convert to Orthodoxy…how dare he. :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Moderators… here’s the mesaage

papal infallibility is bogus dogma invented by the roman church
the filioque was an illegitimate insertion into the creed.The creed was finalized at the second ecumenical council .The Roman church inserted the filioque without the blessing of the four other Holy Sees.The Roman Church also messed up the first three rites of Christian initiation. The three rites; infant Baptism followed by Chrismation (oh I forgot Roman Catholics call it confirmation) and then The Holy Eucharist. The Orthodox Church welcomes children right away. Celibate Priesthood is another dumb idea of the Catholics.
Celibacy is okay for Bishops but local parishes need a married Priest to minister to married couples and their families.
Please investigate your faith and you will experience The Resurrection like you never did before. The Orthodox Church is The Way…Spread the word!

The NErve of some people.:mad::mad::mad:
