not a major league guy, someone in the minors but they said he had potential to be in the majors in the future

The actual title of the article linked in the OP was “US Speedskater took leap of faith”. Cute.

It’s a very nice story about her hearing a call to religious life that started with a trip to Fatima.

She attacked each new project with the tenacity of an Olympian, and, according to Sister Lucille, who leads operations at the order’s Bronx chapter, the “compassion of an angel.”

And hats off to the writer, Martin Rogers. His article was light-hearted but not disrespectful. A very sweet Olympic story.

What a ‘cool’ story!

I remember her mother, Dianne Holum, when she competed back in the 1970’s. She was a tough cookie! I also remember her when she was Eric Heiden’s coach in 1980 at Lake Placid. The speedskating track was outside the local high school, and the ABC mikes picked up her voice yelling at Eric as he skated by.

And now her daughter’s a Franciscan of the Renewal!

It was also nice to read that her former teammates are thinking of her as they compete in Vancouver. GO USA!!!
