Jack, I was there on Sunday for what was a terribly illicit and highly-likely invalid consecration (potentially invalid matter and changed words of consecration). I had to deny myself Communion on a Sunday for the first time in about 3-4 years.
A couple of ideas for you that may work:-See if there is an Opus Dei center in Los Angeles. Opus Dei is a very sold & orthodox group that I’ve recently gotten invoved with in St. Louis. They have retreats and regular times for spiritual direction.
-You may be able to tap groups like the Catholic Resouce Center, which is in Orange County and the hosts of this site, Catholic Answers (in San Diego). They may know of other orthodox groups in greater LA.
-Find someplace with Eucharistic Adoration, especially exposition & have you and your friends spend LOTS of time there.
I would encourage your group to do the same thing I am trying to do…prayer & fasting for Fr. Bill there at USC, for Cardinal Mahony and all other priests & bishops who have lost their focus on Christ and started to sink in the water like Peter did in the Gospels. Cardinal Mahony is going to need lots of prayer, too, as he will have to start working on what I hear is rougly ~$1B in sexual abuse settlements.
