Using a Missal for Prayer?

Dear Forum

I was gifted a rather beaten, 1927 Missal. I have plans to use some tape and some vinyl cover to fix it, however, I have a question:

Apart from the morning and other little selection of prayers inside and some Chants, I was wondering

Can I pray the MASS even If I dont go during the weekday? Meaning, the collects and propers are beautiful little shots of Prayer during the day, so could I pray them and read the Epistles and Lessons??

Is it normal to do this?

Anyone else use their Missal for Prayer??

Am I allowed to do this???

Can I use my Missal as a Praerbook as well as a Missal? 'Cuz then its one big prayerbook!!

Assuming you aren’t going to be staging little mock Eucharistic Rites, of course. What are your misgivings about doing this?

It seems permissible, but just a little unusual to do this outside of a Mass. If you really want a private devotion that is also the public liturgy of the Church, why not use the Divine Office, or Liturgy of the Hours? I believe that the closing prayers in LOTH are taken from the Collects of the Mass. Also, you can only pray one Mass per day, while there are numerous Hours that you could pray throughout the day. I pray Morning and Evening Prayer. It is easy to add Night Prayer, and Daytime Prayer of various types is also there if I want it. You can get a Latin breviary with an approved text to go along with the Extraordinary Form, you could get a modern Latin LOTH, or an approved English LOTH.

If you are thinking of a modern English LOTH, you might want to get a used one for now, as the USCCB has agreed to go ahead with a revision that will introduce a new translation in perhaps 4-5 years from now.
