Okay, I’ve brought this up here before, but I think most people misunderstood my main problem.
My friend and I have a musical group together in which we use computer programs to make and record music. I have the recording program on my computer legally- I laid down a lot of money to buy it, and I use that often to record. However, my friend often gives me beats that he makes on a pirated program, or I record at his house on a pirated program.
My question is: is this wrong of me? If so, to what degree?
I’m not sure about this, because I myself do not use the illegal software on my computer. I have bought legal copies which I use. I have also told my friend that I think its wrong of him to have that software and offered solutions for him to get the legal software more easily. He is obstinate though.
I have consulted three priests about this… One said I just need to explain to him that I think its wrong, which I did, then the rest is up to him. Another said its wrong because its saying “OK” to stealing. The third- a priest who I have always trusted very much through out my life- told me that I have sufficiently shown I am not into stealing by using legal software myself and telling him my objections and all of that, so I’m Ok.
I really can’t stop recording with him, using his beats (nor would I want to, we have a group together that I really enjoy)… what do you all think?
