Your close, perhaps even correct in your thinking, but I’m not exactly sure what it is you mean? SORRY:shrug:
**It is an Official Teaching on a matter of Faith, and therefore is to be accepted and obeyed.
As you indicate, one need not be a Catholic inorder to get to heaven.
So did I just disagree with the Popes statement? No, I did not.**
Similar to the Commandments, which should be thought of as “catagory of sin headings,” this too, has deeper meaning and implications.
It is because of the Actions and desires of Jesus articulated in Mt. 16:18-20, that the RCC holds that all salvation is THROUGH the Catholic church.
What does this mean?
Well, it means, (logically) that because Christ instituted ONLY ONE CHURCH, His RCC, that all salvation, somehow, mysteriously, has to, as in must always, flow through the RCC.
Keep in mind that the RCC was the only Chrsitian church for more than 1500 years, and that the bible is a Catholic book.
It is because Jesus Himself (neiter a sign nor a symbol) BUT Jesus Himself (please read John Chapter 6:40-60. It is as evident, as is Mt. 16:18, If, If, we Jesus at His WORD??? remains not only Spiritually (Mt. 18:20) but actually (in His now Glorified Body) and really and truly present in the only Church founded by Him.
Logic affirms that as Christ is our Redeemer, and the Source of our Salvation, if we cooperate with Him, that all access to heaven, must flow through Him, and because He is IN and With His RCC, through His Catholic Church.
That is what is meant “through His church.”
There are HUGE sacramental bebefits, and many graces available to Catholics, that are not available outside of the Catholic church.
