Hi all,
My fiancé and I are having a Novus Ordo nuptial mass, but I know we are both partial to the rite of marriage/vows from the pre-Vatican II Roman Missal (with the extra blessing of the rings and especially the part where the husband says “with my body I thee worship”). I assume it is never possible to use this older rite within a Novus ordo mass?

Thanks very much, and God bless.

It’s something to ask your priest.

The ordinary form has many options and more leeway than the extraordinary form when it comes to ritual masses and the choices.

And as long as the vows don’t bring any questions regarding intent and consent (as making up vows can)— which they won’t since they are valid in another form of the mass— then it may be an option if the priest will consider it.

If he says no, then you have your answer.

Bizarre. I could swear we had a topic on this exact ask awhile ago but I can’t find it anywhere.

OP, if you scrounge around the search bar, there’s an older thread on this same question.

Also, I agree with @1ke

It may be worth asking if you can ask for dispensation to use the Ordinariate form.
