Uterine Ablation

If I didn’t have the fibroid and was experiencing what Carrie and some of her friends were…I would say “when’s the surgery?” and I would have had a hysterectomy…end of story.

In my case, I opted not to have a hysterectomy because hopefully the end is in sight – my mother had her last period one month before her 52nd birthday, and I will be 52 in September. Six months from now I could be finished with the whole mess…or not. A hyst is major surgery with the risk of all of the complications of any major surgery: infection, blood clots, pneumonia, and all of that. With the hysteroscopy/D&C, I was back to work the following Monday. But if I were younger and had to deal with periods like that for another several years, I would have had the hyst without hesitation!
