I bought the Eureka boss when I got sick of my hoover windtunnel bagless…I love the eureka, but it’s heavy; I don’t mind a heavy vac, as somewhere in my little brain, I feel like it’s getting deeper b/c it weighs more…LOL – that said, this thing has some serious suction…and it switches from “floor” to “hose” – so ALL the suction goes to the hose, not just half of it…I’ve been very happy for my $140; I had my last vac for 3yrs, but then we had fleas and I had to vac the entire 2400sq ft TWICE a day…every day, for a month. I’m not sure that was fair to do to a vac…LOL; and that’s when I was glad to have bagless; but now I really like my cheapie eureka

I really like the dyson. Mine is lightweight and is really getting the fine sand out of the carpet that my other one’s missed. It is very expensive, but it makes such a difference that I have to say it is a wise investment. The main thing is it does not loose suction. If clean fluffy carpets are important to you, go the extra and get a dyson.

Totally agree with the 2 other Dyson posters, it sucks, literally 😛

The mini turbo head attachment is great, I use it on the stairs, upholstery, & even with the shop-vac to clean out the car. Purchased a dusting brush accessory, I can’t imagine dusting now without it.
So the dusting brush really works… I’ve been thinking about getting it for my dyson since I brought it home… but I wasn’t sure. (I’ve been on the fence)

Does the dusting brush work on mini blinds…

I have a Dyson. The hose part is nice and long. I can leave the vacuum at the bottom of the stairs and the hose will reach all of the way up to the top.
Yep the long hose is good…
dyson.com/range/feature_frame.asp?model=DC14-ANIMAL (you’ll still have to click on the instant stair cleaning tap) the hose is exands to 17 ft…

I have the DC 14 Animal… I’ve got the low reach floor tool and the mini turbine head. The low reach floor tool is great for getting under the bed and cabinets in the kitchen.

The mini turbine head is good to get that dog hair off the chairs, couch, and out of the car…
As far as carrying it up goes, it is a tad heavy, but the place you hold it to carry it makes it easy. There is a handle area that where you hold it the center of gravity is, well, centered. It is also midway down the vacuum so that you don’t have to lift it way up. I hope this makes sense.
Yes, that is a big help! I find it easier to move at times then my old dirt devils, hovers, etc…
Anyways, the Dyson is pricy, but worth it in the long run, IMO. No bags to buy, no filters to replace, and easy to clean - (unless your 3.5 year old decides to suck tuna fish up with the hose, but that’s another story!)
Oh my sucking up tuna fish…

Not to mention that all models now come with a 5 year warranty. Mine has a 2 year warranty (That’s because I bought it right before they change all warranty policies to 5 years)

I have wood blinds in some windows, works great. 👍

Its an expensive accessory for what it is, but worth every penny. Its nice to see that I’m actually picking the dust up, rather than letting it float around in the air to settle somewhere else.

Only thing I don’t like about the Dyson is there isn’t a spot to attach the turbo head & dusting brush accessories to the cleaner body. I’m hauling those 2 things around from room to room every time I vacuum, thats how much they get used.

or the low reach floor tool 😦

I carry that around with me 😉

For grins I let in a Kirby salesman, & was quite impressed with their vacuums, but it was 3x the price of an expensive dyson  Hardest part was getting the salesman out of the house.
:nope: Kirby :nope:

My aunt let one of the door to door sales people into her house. They do have a pretty impressive demo. They had the little filter and showed her how much stuff her current vacuum was missing. She had just vacuumed about an hour before they came too! Here’s the kicker… she owned the exact same model that they were demonstrating!!!

So I was puttering around the house with the vacuum cleaner today, when it started emitting a high pitched whine and a smell resembling burned rubber. That can’t be good. Hope we don’t need a new one.

Does anyone know of good, reliable vacuums that are practical in a home with carpeted stairs?
Well I don’t know what they sell where you are, but here the Henry is very popular.

As for your fault if it’s a belt driven brush then it could be the brush needs taken out and cleaned, if it’s a growling noise then it’s the motor bearings. ( you’ll probably feel the vibration in your hands)
Check to see if anything is entangled around the rotating brush, as they do have bearings as well. (and not with it plugged in) :doh2:

And lastly it could be the windings on the motor, if they’re on their way out they smell terrible, and a new motor is needed, but better to just buy a new vacuum cleaner.

The whining noise could be the brush is too tight to turn, so then the belt will burn and eventually break, senseless replacing the belt until the problem is solved, it’ll go the same way.

And if you don’t like any of the advice I’ve given you, don’t worry about it, it’s free. 🙂

We have a Bissell Power Force bagless, and we like it. Even with a damaged hose, it sucks up a ton of drywall dust from the carpet like a champ. I thought our brand new carpet was toast, seriously. I can’t even tell it was there.

We’re also pleased with the customer service. The movers damaged the hose, and when we ordered the new one online, it ended up not being compatible with our older model. Called customer service, and they’re sending a replacement without any add’l charges for the new hose or shipping.

Also LOVE having a bagless. There’s nothing more useless than a vacuum without fresh bags.

Only thing I’d like to have is the unit that kind of snaps out of the front, to carry around to do steps and whatnot. Also wouldn’t mind having more accessories to make the attachment reach from waist to floor or ceiling for better reach in corners.

After reading all of these posts on the Dyson, I think my kids need to give me one for Mother’s Day. Of course, I’ll have to pay for it. But, they can carry from the store to the car and car to the house. Thanks for the info. I’ve been wanting to replace the Hoover Windtunnel since the 2nd time I had to take it to the shop for repair. Been there again another 3 or 4 times.

We’ve got a Kirby, love it. i bought it when I was selling them so, it wasn’t that much.

If you do buy one, get a used one, or grind down the salesman. The mark-up on new ones is at least $1000, before they start doing all the sales price slashing crud.

I bought a new one from a local retailer, but took it back. Loved the cleaner, hated the price. Purchased several other less expensive brands, returned all them because they couldn’t compare to the dyson.

So i ordered a factory refurbished dyson from ebay. Got it in 4 days, at half the price of retail. It appears as though it was never used, came in sealed bags, everything just like the new one I purchased previously. Only difference is the warranty - 30 days instead of 3 years (I believe).

That was 9 months ago, thing is still working great. If you want to save a lot of money, & gamble on the long term warranty like i did, you may consider. My thought was the 30 day warranty will take care of any DOA problems, & the hundreds I’m saving will pay for any repairs, if needed, in a few years that a warranty would normally handle.
