the EMHC said “the body of our Lord”
I know from reading the guidlines for EMHC of our diocese, that this is incorrect. However, the host WAS consecrated validly by the priest, and I did affirm that I believed it to be the real presence by replying “Amen”.
Should i report this to my Pastor, or just let it slide?

Yes report it, and try to have the EMHC present with the pastor when you do. Be charitable.

The host is consecrated and valid, despite the liberty the EMHC took.

The EMHC was in error when he said that. He has no authority whatsoever to change any part of the Mass. While this certainliy did not invalidate the Eucharist, the actions of the EMHC were certainly illicit and should be reported to the priest.

EMHCs don’t have words that would reverse consecration. Furthermore, it is highly unlikely that the EMHC means any harm. Keep in mind that the intentions may be in the right place, even if the actions aren’t. Their devotion towards Our Lord in the Eucharist may be deep, albeit poorly informed.

There is probably someone who is in charge of training the EMHCs at your parish. Be nice about it, but let them know there is a problem. When you ask them about it, ask them if you should wait before mentioning any future problems again. (It might easily take longer than a week to get grown-ups to change anything, but we should not be talking months.) In other words, let them know that it is not your intention to make their life difficult.

If they don’t think it is any problem or if the problem persists, mention it to the pastor. He will appreciate that you tried to let his staff correct the problem, but if they don’t act, he ought to know.

Stay charitable: patient, kind, never rude, all the rest. There will be probably be some who think this is a big deal over nothing. Don’t let your conduct give them any excuses or allow their conduct to violate your peace of heart. It is not that this is not important so much as that it should not be allowed to precipitate worse problems among the brethren.

Or, as Steven Covey says: the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing. If we’re not going to* be* the Body of Christ, the profound significance of the words we use at Mass will be violated, as well. Be on your guard, lest this turn into an opportunity for the evil one.

Good luck. There are lots of parishes in which this would be corrected without much ado. May the Lord grant that you are in one of them.

I help with the EMHCs at our parish and am always open to knowing when such a thing occurs so that we can correct it. We’ve had them say “This IS the body of Christ” or “Take the body of Christ” on rare occasion, but we take measures to re-educate ALL the EMHCs again when something like this comes up.

Practical advice - think about the dymanic in your parish before proceeding.

Is your pastor really in-charge?

Is he the kind of priest who really cares about doing his job correctly?

If not, you’re in for a rough time.

Thank You all for the suggestions. I am really glad i waited a few days and saw your post EasterJoy. I think I was making more of this than needed and will try to find out who does the training for the EMHC.
THANKS again and God Bless you all!
