First of all would the following be in any way sinful? If you walk out into a quiet street knowingly no looking before you step out have you sinned by endangering your life?

Well I thought this might be wrong so as I was going to confession I thought I would raise the issue. I went to confession but forgot to mention this so even if it was a sin it was forgiven.

However when I went back to confession today I remembered this issue and talked to the Priest. I think he thought that I had just accidentally walked without looking, but I hadn’t really, so he said it wasn’t a sin so I didn’t really confess it. As he was speaking the words of absolution I thought that I was invalidating the absolution by failing to confess this issue I thought to be a sin.

So do you think the confession was invalid?

Scruples, not sin. The confession was valid. If your confessor rejects binding you to a particular act as sin, it is forgiven.

If you have, say, a confessor who tells you missing mass on Sundays is not a sin, you might want to find another confessor though, in order that you might receive good counsel and proper penance, but that does not invalidate your confession. In this case, however, your priest is right, this is not a sin.

Are not you with Scrupulosity ? The line is so thin that it is hard to detect your reasoning so that it would be a sin !

If your reasoning was correct, we could not go out for anywhere we are endangering our lives, nor staying inside home for it is there that most accidents happen. And it is in bed that most people die.

Please dont think too much, never go back to former thought-to-be-sins, go ahead. You know that you may go to confession saying: “Father, I have sinned, I am a sinner but at the moment I do not remember any sin. Please forgive my present and past sins” ? And the priest will give you the pardon.

My education taught me to do lists and not to forget the menu but what matters is the guilt, that you take responsibility for your mistakes, that you endeavor to be better and better everyday not that you forgot 1 in a list of 50 sins !

Greetings Antonio5,

Next time you go to Confession bring it up with your priest. You had every intention of confessing it, you just forgot. The Confession is valid.

God bless.
