Valid first communion?

A few years ago I received my first communion, and I knew I had commited motal sin that was not confessed prior to me receiving. Since then I have gone to confession many times and recieved communion in a state of grace.

My question is, was the first communion I received while in a state of mortal sin a valid receiving of the sacrament? If not, was the first time I received communion in a state of grace considered receiving the sacrament of first communion?

You received Holy Communion, the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ the first time you received even though you were in a state of mortal sin. You committed the grave Sin of Sacrilige based on your statement “and I knew I had commited motal sin that was not confessed prior to me receiving.” however you did receive Christ.

“First Communion” is not a sacrament. Eucharist is a sacrament, and that’s what you received at your First Communion. It’s not as though you were “initiated” into any order of reception or some such and therefore, if there were somehow something wrong with that reception, all the subsequent receptions are illicit.

When you confessed the sin of sacrilege, you received the sanctifying graces that you did not receive, by fact of your state of unworthy disposition, when you first received Holy Communion.
