I bought a brown scarpular recently. Today I asked a priest at my parish to enrole me into the scapular. He took the scapular in his hand and blessed it saying “May almighty God bless this scalular and may it protect those who wear it, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”, or something on those lines. He didn’t recite a Marian prayer with me or place it over my head. I want to know if this is a valid enrolment or must I go back and ask him to do it differently?

This site has the enrollment prayers on it. I printed the paper out and went back to the same priest I went to before, made an appointment and got enrolled “by the book” so to speak. Also you may wanna bring a bottle of Holy water with you too, for the enrollment.

Sounds like your scapular was simply blessed.

Rather than starting another thread…

The wearing thereof. I find it “walks” upward under my shirt as I walk around during the day’s activities so that I have one end right under my chin.

Ideas on keeping it in place?

OK, so there is a short form enrollment and long form enrollment. You need an enrollment process, find yourself the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary for daily prayer, and emulate Mary in your daily life.

Additionally, there is a difference between being enrolled and being a third order Carmelite. The latter is a long process that results in membership in the order.

I had a hard time finding an enrollment. Many parishes do not seem eager to do this (or are not aware?). I finally found an event at a national shrine on the feast day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. It was the short form enrollment, but I would look for something similar. You may need to travel and do some digging to find out what is actually planned at the event/mass.
