Valid???????

When pastors from other demoinations consecrate the bread and wine at their own churches, is it still the body of Christ? I know I shouldn’t take it but I’m curious.

Hello,

What do you mean by other denominations? If you mean a Protestant denomination, then no - they can say all the words they want, they have no valid Orders, thus they have no valid Sacraments outside of Baptism and Marriage. That means no Eucharist.

If you mean one of the other Apostolic Churches, such as the Eastern Orthodox or Oriental Orthodox, then yes they do have valid Orders and thus have valid Sacraments. They do have the Eucharist.

As far as I can remember, we don’t regard it as such, and that’s one main reason we don’t receive.

I also think that we are permitted to receive at Eastern Orthodox churches because we regard their priesthood as valid, but they don’t allow us to receive.

For purely hypothetical purposes, what if the pastor in question was a Catholic priest and is now -say- a Lutheran who believes in some form of the Real Presence, and thus you could argue that you do have a proper minister, form, and matter?

I believe hypothetically that it would be valid but illicit .

The main thing to remember is Apostolic Succession. If there is not Apostolic Succession then there is no way for valid Consecration no matter what the intent or belief is. Like a PP said, if the Priest is from one of the valid Apostolic churches then there is a Consecration occurring if it is not an Apostolic church then it does not happen.
