Hi everyone, I have a two part question:
  1. if two Catholics (Roman bride & Byzantine groom) want to get their marriage validated in the Ukrainian Catholic Church, do they need to wait the usual six months (already have a school-age child) and attend marriage preparation?
  2. If their marriage is common-law, is it possible for them to get a validation or do would they be directed to have a full wedding?

There may be a complication due to no marriage certificate.

There must be a conversation with a priest because he will need to determine if there are any impediments, get required documents and affadavits, and give instruction as needed prior to a simple convalidation or a retroactive convalidation. Convalidation is a new marriage in situations of an attempt. There will be a defect of some sort, for example, lack of canonical form.

As Vico indicated, you need to talk with the parish priest. He will let you know what is needed.

If there are no impediments, you can be married in either a Latin Church parish or another particular Church, with any necessary permissions for marriage in a Church outside of your own Church sui uris. Impediments to marriage are different in the Byzantine Church and the Latin Church, and as a Byzantine Catholic you can only be validly married with a priest officiating.

Given that one of you is Catholic, actually both of you are, then if you did not get the necessary permission to be married outside the Church you are not currently considered married in the eyes of the Church.
