Validity of Civil Ceremony in Protestant faiths

I know that the marriage of a Catholic in a civil ceremony is not considered a valid marriage. Validity would only occur if the marriage was blessed later by a Catholic priest. Two protestants marrying in a civil ceremony would be considered valid (and requiring an annullment should one person seek marriage with a Catholic later.)

I am curious how other faiths view civil marriage ceremonies of their membership. For example, would the Baptist faith recognize the civil ceremony of two Baptists as a valid marriage in religious terms and not merely legal? What about other protestant faiths?

As one who was raised in the Lutheran Church, the concept of a “valid” marriage was one I never heard of until I attended a few RCIA classes. I always assumed that if a marriage was legal, everything was cool. :cool:
 
Most post reformation protestants will deny the need of a special class of Holy men (Priest or deacons) needed to preform or witness acts for us (sacraments) and by extension for God to recognize those acts. All brothers and sisters are part of the priesthood of believers, They go to Jesus on their own in effect.

Every Protestant church with which I’m familiar says they’re legit. Now with things the way they are in our culture today, there are some Protestants who wish that the religious element of marriage would be more emphasized. But they’re required to recognize all legal marriages as sufficient.
 
The only reason most protestant churches would consider a civil ceremony invalid is if one party was forced into it.
