Validity of Confession

Hi

Last time I went to confession the priest departed from the approved Rite of Penannce in using this modified Prayer of Absolution:

“Through the ministry of the Church may God give you his pardon and his peace. And I absove you in God’s name: he who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.”

Was this absolution valid? Did it contains the necessary words for sacramental form?

I can’t wait to see the replies to this one. Why is it that some priests feel the need to change around the wording in sacraments? This improvisation causes confusion for some of us laity…sheesh!

I’ve asked this question in the past. Can’t seem to find the thread. Might have been lost during the crash. But, if I remember correctly, the general consensus was that as long as the priest says the he forgives or absolves your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, then your sins are indeed absolved.
