I always wonder why God makes us who we are. I have been reading about the four temperaments. Some people naturally seem to always be at ease. Some people worry and reflect more. Each person has their own shortcomings. In all honesty, some people seem to have deeper issues or more difficult shortcomings to overcome. Why? All of people say do not focus on this life but the next. Pain is real. Sure there is some one out there with it worse. Supposedly life is short. You do not know the day nor the hour. I agree. Most of will make to our 70s. I have my doubts that we will be held accountable for every last sin. Another thing that is difficult to understand, from learning about the temperaments, some people are bound to rub each other the wrong way. Some temperaments carry more or less worries. Some temperaments desperately need God while others could coast by without His assistance.
 
Temperament, like personality, is likely given far more importance in our life than it probably has.

Ultimately, we will all be in deep need, but it behooveth us to find our spiritual life before the crisis comes, else everything will be far harder. What kind of personality we have may end up being less important than the external geometry of our life.

My brother has the most shortcomings and deepest issues of anyone I have ever met. Dealing with him can be an extreme challenge mentally and emotionally.

But through him, I and many others have learned so much about loyalty, perseverance, commitment, and redemption. He’s destroyed himself with anger, violence, crime, and drugs more than once, but he has always come back stronger and dedicated to helping others avoid the same fate. He’s an inspiration to me, his wife, his kids, and his friends.

I don’t believe in god, but if I did, I would probably think that these deeply flawed and difficult people were put on earth to show just how strong the human spirit is and how each and every person can contribute positively to the world, regardless of what they’ve done in the past or what flaws they carry around.

One of the book’s co-authors, Msgr. Chester Michael, died recently, and his funeral was at our parish, presided over by our Bishop. I think I’ll check this out myself at some point.
