Father Gary Thomas, whose story was the basis of the recent movie, “The Rite,” during a talk at Rutgers University, told how he handles exorcism, which is a last resort, and about the reality of Satan and about sin as a vessil for evil to enter the world. He said too that Satan has been defeated, Christ’s crucifixion signaling the defeat of Satan, the cross and the eucharist showing the positive forces that can counter demons. Ninety percent of those seeking exorcism have mental issues, rather than Satanic ones, he told his audience. People should be vigilant, faithful and unafraid, he said.

Interesting article, thanks for sharing! Fr. Thomas certainly takes a very balanced position on this difficult issue. 👍

I have read that sexual abuse is a pretty major pursuit of Satanists. I know a woman who was sexually abused in Satanic rituals, witnessed by her brother. She certainly did have many issues such as multiple personality. She has spent her entire life trying to be one person. She is now in her 50’s. She commented once during part of her recovery, “O my Lord, I can finally see color.” Her trauma was so severe that she could not perceive color.
