Vatican disciplines Austrian dissident priest
(Reuters) - The Vatican has cracked down on a prominent Austrian Roman Catholic priest who has been leading a disobedience campaign to openly challenge Roman Catholic teachings on celibacy and women priests.
The Vatican said on Thursday it had stripped Father Helmut Schueller of the right to use title monsignor and said he also was no longer a “Chaplain of His Holiness”. Schueller remains a priest.
Please pray for all of Austria, and especially this priest that he may know God’s mercy, and please remember to be charitable in your comments on clergy.

I read this as well,

The Catholic Catechisim answers this topic fairly easily, the debate of celibacy an women priests is getting rather old, at least for me…

to think that Christ only picked men because of the time he was living in or what ever one wants to try an debate on that…

I dont see how anyone can really debate this issue any more, to think that Christ himself could not figure this out ? That he was forced to choose men ? That He didn’t have a choice ?

As towards celibacy, religious orders is something one accepts out of his or her own free will, so one can not really argue it isnt fair, when that person is the one who chose to accept his or her cross to begin with, it isn’t as if this is some big secret that the vatican just surprises on people at the last minute.

But

with that being said, being human, we are granted free will, we are given the ability to make a choice, Christ chose men to serve as priests, but I for one can not find anything any where where Christ is specifically noted as saying women can not serve as a priest, so given the fact we are born with free will, if a Pope an council did choose, in prayer to allow women into priestly service, how could God damn humanity for that ?

How could that be blasphemous when humanity was given free will to chose ?

BUT

at this point in time, the choice is to stick with what has been established, so that in turn should suffice, and the choices Christ has made should be sufficent enough to be worth sticking with as well.

Unfortunately all this priest has done is cause a divide in his area, an he does deserve to be prayed for out of love for our brother in Christ, to be at peace in his ministry and to carry on with the mission he has been given.

Also I find life hard enough as it is, why this priest would want to set out on such a giant task, which would require a lot of prayer an discerning by those with more authoraty and the Pope himself, why try an assume that burden …

I know in the past, you would have big Catholic families and somewhere in there among the extended family, cousins, you had someone who dedicated themselves to become a Priest. We still have that but I’m not sure if it is as common.

Austria seems to be the hotbed of controversy…Didn’t Vienna recently close many of their churches recently? What has been allowed to happen to the faith there? Beyond sad.

There are a lot of things Christ did not “say” in the Bible. But He did give Peter the keys and therefore the Church the authority.

As a priest, one is to be obedient and teach with the mind of the Church, not his own personal beliefs.
