Another story on that, with views from the Rev. James Martin and from the head of “New Ways Ministry”:

article
“The real-life experiences of LGBTQ people seem entirely absent from this document,” said the Rev. James Martin, a Jesuit priest who wrote a book on improving Catholic Church outreach to the LGBTQ community, titled “Building a Bridge.” ''We should welcome the congregation’s call to dialogue and listening on gender, and I hope that conversation will now begin."

[edit]

Francis DeBernardo, head of New Ways Ministry, said such concepts are outdated, misinformed and ignore contemporary science on factors beyond visible genitalia that determine gender.

“Gender is also biologically determined by genetics, hormones and brain chemistry - things not visible at birth,” DeBernardo said in a statement. “People do not choose their gender, as the Vatican claims, they discover it through their lived experiences.”

The name of that “ministry” reminds me of these words from the prophet Jeremiah–are we to seek new ways or old ways?

Jer. 6:16 Thus says the LORD: Stand by the earliest roads, ask the pathways of old, “Which is the way to good?” and walk it; thus you will find rest for yourselves. But they said, “We will not walk it.”

Jer. 18:15 Yet my people have forgotten me: they offer incense in vain. They stumble off their paths, the ways of old, Traveling on bypaths, not the beaten track.

Right you are. I’m aware that they’re not a 100% authentic Catholic ministry; that’s why I put their name in quotes.

I would respectfully respond to Fr Martin that we listen to people and their concerns, and the trajectory of that conversation is always towards the truth.

But listening to nonsense as if it were a valid discussion is not fruitful.

If someone told Fr Martin the sun revolves around the earth, I’m don’t think he would engage the discussion as if it were productive.
Same thing with “gender theory”. We listen to people and discuss their issues with a trajectory towards finding the truth.

Rod Dreher comments here:

I don’t know how well this will play in the pews in the US. I received a lengthy e-mail today from a doctrinally orthodox parish priest who explained why he is boxed in on all sides by his bishop on matters like this. I can’t use the letter because the details would out him, but trust me, he is in a completely no-win situation. Catholic laity frustrated over the failure of their priests to teach and uphold Catholic orthodoxy ought to spend some time talking to this man. He wants to do it, but — well, I can’t tell you more, but know this: if the local bishop is either heterodox, or orthodox but afraid to take heat, then parish priests are completely exposed.

The problem is the views of that Fr. James Martin, S. J., carry far more media weight than they should because he is identified as an “advisor” to the pope. It may be this is only a small portion of his time, that connection keeps him on the speed dial for journalists, and his opinions on anything get more coverage than an archbishop.

The last thing the media wants to hear or report on is authentic Catholic teaching.

I’ve been very open to listening to the voices speaking out for LGBTQ issues.

I read Fr Martin’s book, Building the Bridge and follow his posts on FB. My replies have been made hidden, especially when being specific about homosexual acts as never being accepted by the Church.

It’s become clear to me, especially since the Vatican Document release, that respect for each side is not the agenda of the LGBTQ activists.

Viewing LGBTQ acts as the moral equivalent of traditional marriage, is their goal and until the Church and us devote Catholics accept that, we will always be treated as being narrow minded bigots.

I’ve been told, “how can you belong to a church with such backward teachings about homosexuality ?”

The issue has become political on a wide scale and is following a Marxist doctrine of forcing all members of society to accept LGBTQ acts, or face penalties from the law.

It’s going to get worse before it gets better, I have no doubt about it.

God have mercy on us !

Jim
