Vatican Foundation Creates Nobel Prize of Theology

Philosophers like Jean-Paul Sartre Lord Russell(both of whom were non-theists, unfortunately) have been the given the Nobel Prize for Literature. Why do we need a separate prize for theology or the humanities? While it is obviously never in their lifetimes, outstanding Catholic philosophers or theologians who were holy have been made saints and Doctors of the Church.

Instead of arguing the why of this plan, why not discuss the how? The Church has a duty to make the best of what God gives men available and present to the world. This way, she makes God’s greatness and glory visible to humanity. The important question here is not why have this prize. That’s an irrelevant question. The Church has decided. That’s all there is to it. The question is how, we Catholics, are going to disseminate the gifts of these great thinkers so that everyone benefits from them?

We Catholics often waste too much time questioning what is already decided and beyond the reach of the individual to change, while we let precious time pass us by, time that we should use to think and plan how to make these decisions work to make man holier. For when man is holier, he is also happier.

Let the scholars write and let the Church recognize their achievements. When the Church identifies today’s great minds in theology, let’s take their work to our people. It is God’s plan that our people hear these words and through them reach a deeper and richer understanding of the faith.

I for one, work among the poorest of the poor and in the protection of the unborn. My people need to hear, learn and understand the faith. My people do not care why the Vatican established a commission. All they want is to know how to deal with the terror of abortion. They want Brother to tell them that they are safe in a foreign land, because God is here too. They need a deeper understanding of the Gospel. If modern scholars can contribute to this cause, then let it happen. I for one can stand to learn more.

Exactly, there were more Catholics with Literature and Peace Prizes than there were Catholics with science prizes. That is, Catholics are **somewhat less underrepresented **in Lit and Peace than they are underrepresented in the sciences. The source certainly does not say, as you nonsensically claimed, that Catholics are overrepresented in Literature and Peace prizes.

I’m not backing out of anything. Your insistence that the book, and the facts it reports, are exactly opposite to what the book says, is just bizarre.

Oh well I presume at least by your subsequent silence on the matter that you have now backed out of your even more outrageous claim that
