The title of the article is different than the title of the thread.

The Vatican made investments, and the investment company invested in other companies, one being the film company.

Instead of investing with a fund manager that apparently does not have a Catholic conscience, with all the global resources at its disposal, the Holy See should be able to better choose investments that more align with Catholic values. That they don’t shows that those that manage the purse don’t really care about the treasures in Heaven (Judas was the first to manage the purse and he didn’t either, for what that’s worth).

Just another reason to donate directly to a charity one knows with more certainty is doing good, than giving to an umbrella agency that may have less scruples, including sadly Peter’s Pence.

I’m not sure they understand the concept.

When I was a child, I was told of such things, but it didn’t have much of an impact on me. Lately, I have been rethinking these things, and one of the ideas that occurs to me is that God has to give them to you. They aren’t something that you can get solely by dint of your own effort. If you actually started trying to make an inviting spot for God to reside in your soul, one of the things you would have to do in order to purify yourself is to quit that sort of job.

It’s kind of surprising that people might think the Vatican doesn’t know what it’s investing in, like it’s some type of “Jed Clampett” type just throwing money around. The Vatican has a bank, it knows how to invest. It chose to invest in this for some reason.

If it’s anything like my mutual funds, it’s actually pretty hard to know what exactly I’ve invested in, without reading the fine print. Moreover the portfolio is constantly changing. Other than the traders it would be pretty hard to know exactly what you’ve invested in with 100% accuracy 100% of the time. Nor could I know what firms I’ve invested in have themselves invested in.

The Vatican’s investment arm invested in a company that invested in this film.

It seems to me a bit too many steps removed for the initial investor to have full control. There are “ethical” investment funds. Not sure if there are ethical Catholic investment funds. It makes a difference because promoting gay sex is likely to have different ethical considerations for secular compared to Catholic ethics.
