What did they call Vatican I before Vatican II? They didn’t know there would be more “Vaticans” so to speak, so did they simply call it “Vatican”?

Like they didn’t call World War I “World War ‘1’” because they didn’t know there was going to be another. From my understanding, they simply called it the “Great War”.

I imagine if they hold another council at Trent, you’d have Trent I and Trent II. 🙂

It was called the Vatican Council.

Because it wouldn’t have made any sense to have Vatican II before Vatican I.
