hello, you need to post this question or concern on the liturgy & sacraments forum to get a more accurate answer. GOD bless & prayers to all! 🙂

First, although the current form of the Mass is somewhat different from that of the Mass before Vatican II, the normative language, even today, is LATIN. Therefore, your term is imprecise. Vernacular languages are permitted because an indult (a special allowance) has been made for their use, BUT, there is nothing wrong with saying the entire Mass in Latin today (with the exceptions of the readings and homily).

Second, Vatican II abrogated but never abolished what is now known as the Extraordinary Form of the Mass. In other words, it was still allowed, but only with special permission. This year, the pope issued a Motu Proprio (a special declaration) which now allows any priest to say the Extraordinary Form. (The post-Vatican II Mass is known as the Ordinary Form.)

I could be wrong, but it is my understanding the VII did noting concering the EF Mass. the OF grew out of VII and replaced the EF in useage Pope John Pal stated that the EF could be used with premission from the Local Bishop and now Pope benidict has said that Primission is not needed as that the EF was never banned form use.

Vatican II did not “do away with Latin masses”.

The term “Latin Mass” is an ambiguous one, anyway, since the reformed liturgy of the Mass (from 1969, sometimes called the “Novus Ordo” or “Pauline” Mass, and properly called the “Ordinary Form” of the Mass) can be celebrated in Latin!

Vatican II did not change the Mass at all, but laid the groundwork for how to reform it. Whether the reforms that happened afterward actually coincide with what the Council said should happen… is another matter.

It’s being discussed in the thread noted below, in my signature: the CAF study of Sacrosanctum Concilium, the Vatican II document on the liturgy.
