Belgian beer is the best. If you live near any major US city, you can probably find some selections at an urban brewpub.

I always thought German beer was best till I got over there and everyone said nope, Belgian. Spent some happy hours in a nice Catholic themed bar in Amsterdam confirming this. On a future trip I would love to visit some of the monasteries that brew.

I can’t believe we’re now excusing this travesty by saying it’s just about selling stamps. Indeed, where’s the Mao stamp? That would sell more than Luther.

Your hubby is a wise man. People who love collecting stamps will be snapping up every release.
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

“For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.”

Why not a stamp for the Satanists too? Imagine how many of those they could sell!

Or wed all be dead from the vicious assaults and homicides that would probably ensue, lol

Start a thread on it, I’ve never had Belgian beer
There you go Adam

Monks, brewing beer and evangelisation Evangelization
Regulars. , I am putting this topic here. If you feel it’s better elsewhere please move it. One popular and income generating industry of Monastries over the centuries has been brewing beer. The beer brewing principle in this industry has been to keep the beer pure, the ingredients pure. Water, grain, hops,. The fermenting bacteria has been closely guarded in rooms where the windows have been open to invite a blend of bacteria in. This bacteria has been carefully cultivated and preserved o…
It’s a fascinating history.

I think we should begin by taking a thoughtful look at what is actually on the stamp. Let’s look at the image:

I don’t think Martin Luther is necessarily being honored here. What says the community?

(I do think that many in the community, if not most, are unfamiliar with the Lutheran - Catholic dialogue that has been taking place in the last ten years. I think there have been whole Lutheran congregations that have become Catholic. That’s a good thing. But the stamp has gone too far, it seems. 🤔 )

Another poster already pointed out that the image is taken from, or is very similar to, a painting over the door of the Reformation church in Wittenberg. Surely it intends to honor Luther and to portray him as a pious man, when in reality he was deeply depraved.

From the Zenit article:

The postage stamp issued by the Philatelic Office for the occasion depicts in the foreground Jesus crucified and in the background a golden and timeless view of the city of Wittenberg. With a penitential disposition, kneeling respectively on the left and right of the cross, Martin Luther holds the Bible, source and destination of his doctrine, while Philipp Melanchthon, theologian and friend of Martin Luther, one of the main protagonists of the reform, holds in hand the Augsburg Confession (Confessio Augustana), the first official public presentation of the principles of Protestantism written by him.

It’s the picture off the front of the All Saints Church in Wittenberg where ML nailed his Theses, known as the Reformation Church. I reckon it’s honoring Christ on the cross, with prominence given to Scripture (the big book). But mostly I just see that picture as symbolic of the Reformation Church in Wittenberg - the city is in the background.

I seem to remember that the congregation was from Texas or the Southwest. But the one I remember was from years ago.

If the Lutherans want to make a nice gesture of ecumenism, they could stop naming churches “Lutheran,” after a man who encouraged pogroms against Jews.

The pontiff, cardinals, bishops and clergy celebrating Luther and the reformation? Somewhere lucifer must be getting a good chuckle at this.
