One of the more charming aspects of this forum is the nearly irrational hatred of Luther that occasionally comes spilling out. I don’t know why Catholics insist on such vicious attacks on a man that the Church herself has long since come to peace with.

Funny you talk of “vicious attacks” against the man who called for Jewish buildings to be burned to the ground, and who called the pope the Antichrist…

Funny how you conveniently forget or ignore that the Church herself did not treat Jews much (or any) better in that same timeframe. Why does the inquisition not forever taint Catholics and Catholicism, but Luther’s misdeeds forever taint his legacy and followers?

But, Don Ruggero! How could all those Church leaders, some of the greatest Catholic leaders, thinkers, and theologians of their ages, be so wrong while a handful of CAFers are so right?

Have you heard of ANZAC day?
Of course, I take part in it every year.
Have you been to Gallipoli?
No.
Given the coverage of Gallipoli every year. And it’s growing popularity.
If you think it’s growing among Turks your fooling yourself.

We only get to do it because the Ottoman Empire is not around to say no to us and fortunately Turkey allows this but obviously they do not view it favorably.

But are you Australian?
Of course I am.

Amen. I am so glad to be out of this fray - I can’t tell you how glad. I can do no other.

Absolutely false, and a typical canard against Catholics and the Inquisition. And even if true…where’s the Pope Leo X stamp? Why honor the heresiarch?

Not false. You realize that the Church has apologized for its past treatment of the Jews? And that both Pope Benedict and Pope Francis have spoken highly of Luther? I suppose you understand Church history and Church teaching better than the Church and the Popes?

Luther was a heresiarch who led millions astray. No pope can change history.

I agree, however Martin Luther did spread the Gospels (A corrupted version) similar to the Protestants today except most Protestants today don’t know different and are good hearted, which is why I would not condemn them like that, but this kind of ‘unity’ in the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther is a false unity and that is why I think it such folly. It’s scandal at best.

God Bless You

What in the actual fudge. The church needs to get its head out of its butt before it’s too late. SO much stuff has already gone wrong with all of these homosexual priests and religious brothers and sisters committing heresy! Our mass is basically Anglican and people don’t give a care in the world about tradition. Heck, many of our members don’t even live by basic Christian virtue and cower down to all of these gays; people are so sensitive to radical Islam, and just Islam in general. You could go up to a Catholic and say “Your religion is false” with nothing happening. I doubt any Christian would even say anything other than an attempt to preach. BUT NOO you say the slightest thing about the Koran and your suddenly a BIGOT, a RACIST, and many other names. Grow up and learn that everyone’s beliefs should be respected (SJWs are questionable 😂 ). Honestly, I don’t care what these other people think because respect is a two way street and we should all respect our beliefs. We should have a peaceful relationship and just try to kindly preach to our Muslim brethren. God bless you all.

Hope they apologized to the Lutherans first, wouldn’t want to offend anyone except traditional Catholics, they can be offended daily without worry.

His 95 theses condemned several things we practice today with no apology. Just because he rightly condemned the abuse of such things as indulgences, does not give him a clean pass. I use Martin Luther as inspiration today of what NOT to do when we are living through corrupt times.

God Bless

Thank you for reading.

I was just curious if you had a reference for B16’s thoughts and words regarding Luther?
