I’m reading interesting observations that I hadn’t even noticed - guess I was in a blur watching the Midnight Mass.

But didn’t anyone notice distribution of Holy Communion? Only those receiving from the Pope received on the tongue. Any other priest giving Communion gave it in the hand. ** I didn’t see one person receiving otherwise - not one.…And the frustration is that - ** if there were others not distributing Communion in the hand, we did not see it. Any thoughts?

At the Ring Mass in November quite a few received in the hand by the pope.

I watched the Midnight Mass, as well. I agree that the Holy Father only gave communion on the tongue. And while most of the communicants receiving from someone other than Pope Benedict received in the hand, I actually did notice a few folks receiving on the tongue. They were definitely the minority (perhaps 10%). I was somewhat surprised that every Italian nun seems to receive in the hand. In any case, it was pretty obvious that those receiving from the Holy Father must have been given clear instructions that they were to receive on the tongue because not a single one stuck out his hands.
