It is unfortunate that the public debate surrounding the upcoming synod on the family "has had the effect of restricting the discussion almost exclusively to access to Communion for those …

We need to tread carefully here. Some Catholics will just use that as an excuse to lay back and let so-called gay “marriage” and living together without marriage slide in leiu of what appear to be less pressing problems for First World society like whether or not Protestant marriages are really valid. :ehh:

I cannot doubt the priest’s intentions, however, this is exactly the reason why I get messages and responses from Catholics who are “surprised” when their state or when Ireland votes to legalize so-called gay “marriage”.

Numerous Catholics all over the West vote in anti-Christian, pro-gay “marriage” politicians or vote NO on banning so-called gay “marriage” and they are actually “surprised” and “didn’t think it could happen” when it becomes legal? :ehh:

If we are not going to focus on the major problems, how we possibly expect the general congregation to be properly disposed to fend off the worst and most destructive evils?

One key strategy by those who promote evil things against natural law is to make sure we are silent so they can dominate the debate and give the false notion that everyone must agree with that viewpoint and it’s the only viable one.

We have much bigger worries than gay civil unions.

The divorce rate of Catholics is absurdly high.
Contraception use among Catholics is almost universal.
Even abortion among Catholics is shocking.

These aren’t a question of bad catechesis. they know Catholic doctrine, and just don’t care.

The only way this will change is to make it much, much harder for Catholics to marry in the Church. They have to show substantial evidence they are regular church-going Catholics who do not live together. If the Church doesn’t take the sacrament of Marriage seriously, one can’t expect the couple marrying to.

We are not worrying about gay “civil union”. We worry gay union is being called “marriage”.
When human beings think they can re-define marriage that was defined by God, it is the end of human civilization.

The union of Sacramental Marriage and Civil Marriage was on life support with No Fault Divorce. Gay Unions put the stake in it. The faster we disassociate ourselves from the madness, and define marriage on Catholic terms to Catholics, the better off we will be.

We cannot disassociate ourselves from it. It is part of how we need to change society to conform to moral truths.

It is not ‘marriage on Catholic terms’ it is marriage on GOD’S terms, and the faster we can make the world understand that, the better it is for all of us.

The Council is not about those issues per se… it is primarily about the family and how those particular issues affect families. The synod will be addressing a pastoral approach to both issues which are highly significant and confusing for modern families and discerning a new way (if one exists) of regarding and guiding people which will point them on the right path.

Well this is the first post from you I have agreed with! 👍

And I would like to add it is marriage on terms of logic, objecivity, consitency, honesty with ourselves, TRUTH and nature. The idea we should stop speaking truth to the culture, point out what is true and false, is nt witnessing. Martyrs were born of refusal to lie to the culture and go along with its self-deception. Martyrs may be born of the church’s refusal today to go along with the latest lie humans have created. This will not mean that the church has lacked prudence, it is the same christianity as always. Plus, culture alway looses to christianity in the long run.

Regarding communion for the divorced and remarried, and there may be different proposals, but Communion for the divorced and remarried has been discussed before. It was discussed by Synod fathers at the 2005 Synod and this article describes some of the other times Communion for the divorced and remarried was analysed.
