Vatican plans new TV network
By Eric J. Lyman
ROME (Hollywood Reporter) - Days after Pope Benedict XVI criticised the media for its “destructive” influence, the Vatican on Monday announced plans to launch its first television network by the end of the year.
H2O will broadcast news and original entertainment programming worldwide in seven languages, according to a statement. Additional details were sketchy.

Maybe EWTN will broadcast some of the new network’s programs. I for one would watch.

I might be in the minority here, but I don’t like the idea. How are they going to pay for it? Why not just help provide some funding and programs for ETWN? Or even make some “Catholic point of view” show to try to market to some of the other Christian channels.

Um, isn’t EWTN North American only…?

I like the idea. They’ll manage to pay for it, I’m sure. As far as I know, the Vatican is doing ok financially, and I’m sure they could easily get funding for it.

Here’s hoping they televise the Papal liturgies without some commentator rattling off what we can already see during the music and the moments during Mass that are supposed to be quiet.

I think this is great! With no slight to EWTN, I would like to get shows direct direct from the Vatican. And it’s nice to have 2 choices.

However, I could be eating those words if they say or do something inappropriate!
